'Night at the Museum' - High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Peter's review of the Ben Stiller hit, 'Night at the Museum.' Overall, this Blu-ray is a much-needed win for Fox, with a colorful transfer, a lively soundtrack and a few good extras.

Why Fox didn't grant this one a BD-50 is something of a mystery, as it seems to be the reason why this edition drops the majority of the video-based extras that appear on the two-disc standard-def edition.

I'm kinda disappointed that all the SD special features didn't make it into this one. I loved the film though.

I think that it is just lousy by Fox to release a movie like this with the least amount of effort! How hard could it be to do AVC encode that would leave room for extras if they got there mind set to do BD25 releases? They seem to have the time to do it considering they have removed almost every release that was scheduled without any explanation which leads to one conspiracy theory after another. I wish there was a way to let Fox know how we are feeling (I think that there are more who feel like I do) and make them rethink their strategy sooner rather than later!

I only own one Fox BD and that is The Usual Suspects, I am going to sell it as soon as I have seen it and won't be purchasing any Fox releases until the do 'em like they should! I am not in a hurry and will be waiting for them to get their act together, that act better be BD50 with AVC encodes and tons of extras or they won't get my $!

i cant believe how early this came out either, but as much as i love ben stiller and owen wilson, i dont really know if i want this though cuz its PG and the pq rating is only 4/5 stars. plus fox are a bunch of cheap assholes that sell their movies for wayyy too much money.

I don't understand why Fox doesn't put movies on 50GB discs... plus they charge $40 a movie. Is this some kind of joke? What a rip off...

Anyways, maybe I'll buy the movie if some place has it for cheap.

Because this will most likely be a double dip, it's going to be a rental for me till they release a version comparible to the SD version.

This just sucks. I would have to upgrade my receiver to one with HDMI 1.3 to be able to enjoy the sound, because, like the Xmen, It only has the DTS losless which will not convert, no matter what over optical to any kind of 5.1 signal.

Why not put a DD 5.1 on it so I can have good sound too? And where are the receivers with DTS HD losless and DD plus and all that stuff? They'll give us terrible "spectra-sound" and all kinds of cinema junk we can't use, but they're holding off on the newest HD sound technologies?

Grrrrr.....
