Default 'Shinobi: Heart Under Blade' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Shinobi: Heart Under Blade' has been posted. He
loved this anime-inspired, live-action martial arts fantasy. This
low-priced Blu-ray release features an above average video transfer, a
powerful TrueHD 6.1 audio mix, and a thorough collection of
supplements. Worth a look.

Any anime enthusiast who doesn’t rank ‘Ninja Scroll’ as one of the most stunning animated features of all time should turn in their membership card.
The same way I think Akira is over-rated (in terms of storyline), N. Scroll was also over-rated and I still keeping my membership card.

I forgot to say IMO.

Seriously now: I am more of a fan of the Mecha Robot era (Voltes V, Mazinger......) and a CGI junkie from birth. Ninja scroll was a superb material and unique but the original anime is crying for a CGI upgrade with today's technology (IMO). A remake could be a positive approach (if done the right way).

BTW: Very nice review Ken. Shinobi is a must rent for me.

Ken I have a personal question:

Have you seen this movie, and what do you think of it?

Hong Gil Dong against the Black Ninjas (1978)

The thought of that made me puke a little in my mouth.

The best thing NS had going for it was the animation and art style, past that it's a fairly standard story with some imaginative sequences tossed in. I just wish it were originally created in 16:9, damn lack of foresight.

Ordered Shinobi to be supportive. More Japanese (Asian, well, foreign in general) movies need to come out on Blu and get sold for $10.95 US.

An enjoyable movie for sure. I agree with the review other than I thought the PQ was better that it is rated here.

Why puke? Nostalgia should stay in the past. I never said: " 3D remake of ninja scroll". Hello?

Do you like:

Afro-Samurai, Samurai Champloo and other anime like Ergo Proxy, Gungrave, Cowboy bebop, Karas and much more decent series out there?
Then I really don't know where your puke is coming from?

I'm a big fan of hand drawn is all. I like the way the aforementioned look, but feel NS should be left alone.

It's totally unrelated to nostalgia as well, it just happens to be a preference I have over the newer look (1998 and on).

Is this the first title to have a 6.1 TrueHD track?

I was actually going to mention this as well. This is the first TrueHD track I've seen with more than 5.1 channels. I like it. I look forward to more DTS and Dolby tracks with >5.1 channels. Someday, I'll be upgrading to a 7.1 system and I'd like to be able to enjoy those extra channels.
