Yes the soft photography does hold it back some but that is the original intent so it can t be faulted though there a good many scenes that stand out in regards to detail and contrast.. I would give it a 4/5 keeping in mind the original source, and most likely the best it will look (minus the minor noise and posterization)
I agree, I thought the picture looked lovley considering the age. The picture was very clear and sharp, and I only noticed grain here and there. It had been awhile since I had watched it, so I got to enjoy it anew all over again. I was just writhing in agony over one screw up after another, and could really feel the anguish that both Anthony Hopkins and Sean Connery's characters were feeling by the end of the movie. The movie wasn't meant to be uplifting, and highlights what happens when politics supercedes sound judgement during a war.

To anyone who has this title:

My SD DVD version has a problem, the english subtitles for the germans speaking aren't hard coded on the film so you have to have full english subtitles on in order to get them which can get annoying for the rest of the film. Is this fixed for the blu-ray?

Rented this a week ago and it just doesnt work. Too many what end up being ancillary characters to give a damn about or keep up with. Just kind of meh.

I would rename it: "A movie too long"

This film is a well respected classic, which I find highly entertaining. Bad failure on the part of the reviewer for not telling us that there are excellent extra features from the previous DVD release which have not been included on the BD. It would have taken him 2 minutes net surfing to find that out.
