Default 'Blades of Glory' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Blades of Glory' has been posted. He says it's very
funny, and smarter and better acted than you might expect. This
Blu-ray easily matches the previous HD DVD version in terms of video,
and offers an upgrade to high-res audio. The extras are extensive and
entertaining. Well worth picking up.

so why does the blu-ray not get an additional star for having uncompressed audio versus the hd-dvd that received 4 stars for a dolby digital track?

The HD-DVD did have a Dolby Digital Plus track...is that the same as "standard Dolby Digital 5.1"?

He probably forgot. or can't seem to give credit to where credit is due. the blu-ray version is better. can't wait for the pcm track on transformers to do the same.

Yeah I love reading the reviews I think they are very well done but the star system has always been wacky at points. Like Hot Fuzz...it got 5 stars overall but had 4 stars or lower in some categories which doesn't make sense. It's like giving a student an A+ when he got a few answers wrong.

I agree. I am Legend gets 5 star sound but M&C puts it to bed but only got 4.5. there needs to be more separation. 10 point system or go to 6 stars.

Keep those 24-bit PCM tracks coming paramount. I want too here how amazing Transformers sound with one.

Interesting...somehow I missed that this movie would have PCM. For some reason I thought it would only have Standard Dolby Digital soundtrack(oh wait that would be common for a WB catalogue release)...I might be picking this one up once it comes out to replace my HD DVD version.

If you read the review methodology, you'll find that the overall score of the release is not a mathematical average of the individual rating components, but is exactly what it says, and overall rating with everything taken into consideration. This category is up to the reviewer, like the other individual categories.

Actually the DD+ track on Transformers was also mastered at 24-bits. Therefore, if Paramount does release Transformers on Blu-ray with a PCM track, and if in fact there's a noticeable improvement in sound quality over the HD DVD, it won't have anything to do with bit-depth.

I noticed that, too. The HD DVD had a DD+ track encoded (I believe) at 1.5 mbps. Although it's no uncompressed track, I imagine it's still substantially better than a standard DD track encoded at 480 kHz or 640 kHz.

I would also suggest that the Blu-ray version of this movie should receive a higher rating if the PCM track on the BD is so noticeably better than the DD+ track on the HD DVD (sorry to nitpick, Peter).
