Default 'Category 7: The End of the World' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Category 7: The End of the World' has been posted. He says it's a better-than-average TV disaster flick, with a solid B-movie cast and some decent CGI effects. This Blu-ray delivers good video and audio for the price. 'Category 7' is worth considering if you actually like the flick. Otherwise, rent this for some grade A cheese.

Pretty decent disaster flick. I did have some problems with the audio about 2 hours in (when Shannen Doherty/Randy Quaid are in the garage). The conversations for about 5 minutes were low while everything else was high.

The movie is pretty ridiculous all the things happening at once, but oh well - didn't buy it looking for a real plot. Also, I like how the world is in huge danger, but the head of FEMA has time to go to banquet parties, get coffee and walk around town with her ex boyfriend/the only man who can save the world, and spend time with her son. I'd think she would be working in the office 24/7, but she manages to just put in 9-5 and then live her life.

My K-Mart has it for $9.99. I want to get it just for the price.

Certainly nothing to complain about at that price point.

I believe I saw this on TV last year. It wasn't too bad as far as made for TV movies go.

Echo Bridge simply took NBC's 1080i broadcast master and slapped it on a disc.

Thanks Josh,

so being that this was shot on film, then transferred to digital (1080i) for broadcast, it's possible that the special effects were only created in the 1080i format for the 1080i master... hence making this the best possible resolution presentation...

What do you think?

Visual effects would almost certainly have been rendered at a progressive resolution.

There are a couple of possibilities here:

- Regardless of what resolution they were rendered as, the FX may have been output back onto film first, which was then telecined directly to a 1080i master.

Or

- A 1080p master does exist but Echo Bridge didn't use it.

I'm not sure which is the case here.
