Default 'The Devil's Own' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'The Devil's Own' is up. He says the film is a mixed bag that suffers whenever Ford and Pitt aren't on screen. The Blu-ray features a wonderful TrueHD audio mix, but problematic video, and *NO* special features. Definitely rent this one before considering a purchase.

good review, have the dvd, this review sounds like it's worth an upgrade in my eyes.....when it's on sale. i'm not paying no 20, 25 for this one, as historically it's destined to bargain bin greatness alongside Hollow Man.

I find it interesting that people are finally becoming more selective in the titles they are prepared to purchase.

When the war was on this was exactly the type of title that the rabid bluboys would have been on here straight away saying 'definately picking this up' or 'blind buy for me' i.e. I will buy anything to support my side.

While that support in itself is to be admired its also the reason we are getting these type of sub par releases now instead of more modern or simply better films as the trend was set, hopefully if more people give these type of titles a miss until they go on sale studios will either a) start to release them at a budget price as you would probably get this easily on SD for under $5, which can be done when you see Echo Bridges releases out now for under $15 or b) start releasing more popular titles.

This movie is just dying for a special edition. There were so many script changes that there must be a very good amount of extra footage out there. Unfortunately, it was Pakula's last film and both Pitt and Ford would probably prefer to forget about it.

Sad that they didn't even include the trailers. If you watch both of them, there are more than a few deleted scenes in them.

Greetings,

FYI, Kenneth lists this as a BD-25 single layer disc but it is a BD-50.

Cheers,

I agree, but until recently I found myself torn on this issue. On the one hand I felt that "if they're not going to make the effort with presentation and features, why release them at all" and "people who buy sub-par releases only encourage more sub-par releases" but a part of me knew what it was like to be a fan of something not very popular and to be glad to have it released in ANY form.

Unfortunately, the latter comment applies much more to DVD than to Blu-ray, as there are very few Blu-rays than have not been previously released on DVD. Here, the rabid collector argument fails, and I'm left thinking: "enough crap".

I enjoyed watching this on Blu-ray the other night. A pretty decent flick that looks really good in 1080p. I had seen it years ago but it was nice to see it again.
