Thumbs up 'Enter the Dragon' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Enter the Dragon' on Blu-ray (in stores April 17) is up. As they did on the HD DVD edition last summer, Warner Home Entertainment has done Bruce Lee proud on this Blu-ray, with strong video and audio, and enough extras that the hours of materials may take you days to watch. For only $28.95 list, this disc is well worth the investment for Bruce Lee fans.

This movie will find a home in my collection. How about a collection of the Green Hornet in HD?

Interesting that they needed a BD-50 for an identical copy of the HD-DVD. I guess the BD-25 was short by 5gb...

So this is the same 1080i sourced master as the HDdvd? Disappointing.

I agree, very disappointing - Warner is cutting corners big time. I'm avoiding buying any of their current and future releases until they improve the quality of their releases.

The plot thickens on this title..

During some product review I used this HD DVD title for testing and found out it is mastered in 720P. This was quite evident with the Toshiba due to the scaling errors it has. At 1080I output this was quite evident and at 720P they disappeared.

So my curious question is who said this was a 1080P master? Did they really go back and remaster this movie?

Another point, this film is not rich in detail at all so I doubt a 1080P master will make much difference. On the flip side, considering how most people are going to have the player setup, 1080I or 1080P, a 1080P native disc would help make sure things stay correct.

The disk still has the aliasing issue, but it's only distracting in a few scenes. I wouldn't forgo this release because of it. Hopefully we'll get a chance to double dip someday, but I've already watched it a handful of times and would have no problem buying it again.

It is pretty pathetic the reviewer didn't notice and report the issue though.

From HomeTheaterForum:

Enter the Dragon
* Master was incorrectly filtered prior to encoding resulting in severe jaggies; effective disc resolution is 960x1080.
! Warner does not consider this an issue, and states a new master must be struck to fix the problem.

I bought it based on this guys review. I have since learned not to rely on his reviews (seems he may not even actually watch the review disks in some cases), and always check to see if what he says gels with reviews on other sites. But I still only found out about this particular BD messup today...
