Thumbs up Italian Job -- High-Def Digest review

Despite the missing DTS track, this is a solid disc, and on par with the HD DVD version:

Though I must say, after seeing this film for the third time now to do the review, it is not holding up all that well. Of course, that's probably not the movie's fault...

I have no idea what the reviewer was smoking, but this is one of the worst HD transfers I have ever seen. The video, what a mess! A disgusting digital looking grain plagues most of the movie; it was as if I was watching a 1080i tv broadcast. I hate to say this, but the DVD version puts this to shame when it comes to video quality. However, I found the audio to be more enveloping and engaging than what is portrayed in the review. The surround channels were used quite a lot, to my surprise. It would have been nice though if the LFE had been a bit more aggressive.
Video=3/10
Audio=7.1/10
Unless you're an avid fan of this movie, avoid at all cost until this receives a major restoration along with a lossless track.

Yeah I too was very disappointed in the PQ on this disc. I hope Paramount will eventually remaster it and add a TrueHD soundtrack while they're at it. I'm a big fan of this movie, just not the disc.
