Default 'Unbreakable' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Unbreakable' has been posted. He liked it better than he did the first time he saw it eight years ago, but he still has his issues with the film. This Blu-ray features an above-average, faithful video transfer, an excellent PCM audio experience, and a full collection of supplements that mirrors the standard DVD. Fans will be giddy, others should approach with some caution, but it's worth a look.

for a second I thought this was the review for Untraceable, then I looked at the movie itself rating, saw the 3.5, then I knew it wasn't Untraceable (which was a horrible film)!

anyway, I might pick this up.

I am the exact opposite from the reviewer's reaction after viewing it a second time. When I first saw this in theaters I did enjoy it quite a bit. However, I haven't cared to revisit it much since I purchased that DVD back in 2000. Not to say that I didn't enjoy the take the film took, I did but, not sure if I'm going to upgrade to the .

this is my favorite M Night flick as well, i have had it preorderd from Amazon for a while(i might not get it until May because of some long confusing stupid thing i did) but i was wondering how does the $10 back work, do i have to cut up any of my packaging or send in my DVD? or do they just send me $10 with a copy of the UPCs and receipt, and do they accept Amazon receipts?

I request that Kenneth take another listen to the PCM soundtrack at timecode 8:30-8:32. There is an audible popping distortion in the right rear surround of the PCM 5.1 soundtrack that is not present in the DD5.1 soundtrack. There is also popping in the center at 1:28:21.

More of this issue is documented at AVSFORUM by several users, and I believe the review should be updated to reflect this encoding error:

This is an underrated film IMO. It's true that there are many of us online folks that seem to either love it or hate it. Count me as one who loves it and easily pre-ordered it the day it was available on amazon.

One question I have regarding the Audio. The DTS track on the Vista dvd is suberb. I remember that beginning train sequence and how deep the LFE channel was. I'm sure the PCM track will best it but K. Brown only refers to the inferior standard dvd dolby track for his reference?

No matter...can't wait to get this on wednesday.

Yeah, how does this work? I was extremely pleased to read about this rebate. More studios should be doing this.

My apologies -- this was simply a typo that has been corrected. It should have read DTS rather than Dolby Digital. I believe the Vista DVD has both a DTS and a DD track, but I used the DTS for comparison purposes.

Thanks for catching my oversight!

You simply fill out the enclosed coupon, attach the receipt for your Blu-ray disc purchase, and also attach a proof of purchase tab from the standard DVD. The PoP tabs are often found inside the case and are easily removed, but sometimes are found on the back cover and must be cut out to be sent in. It's worth it in my opinion, especially with a release like 'Unbreakable' where the BD makes the DVD irrelevant.

Thanks as always for posting!

I confirmed it on my copy -- while the brief distortion doesn't affect my score, I'll note the issue in the review.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention and thanks as always for posting!
