Default 'Hidalgo' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Hidalgo' has been posted. He says this is a great adventure film that's been largely overlooked. This Blu-ray offers an exceptional video transfer and a powerful PCM uncompressed audio track that will easily please fans of the film. This one is recommended.

Does anyone with an early copy of this disc know whether that hideous "Blu-ray Disc" lettering across the top is actually present on the packaging?

No, the blue bars aren't on the final packaging -- they only appear on Disney's stock photos. From what I understand, the studio adds this element to their cover scans to help online consumers easily distinguish Blu-ray editions of films from their standard DVD counterparts. I'm sure it helps less savvy customers to navigate their way through Amazon and other online retailers.

But even a logical explanation can't make those hideous bars look any better

saw this movie in theaters, only because i was impressed with viggo's performance over his career... recently of course lord of the rings...

film was great! viggo has become that name thats always been under the radar, but when he delivers, HE DELIVERS.....

i bought the fullscreen edition dvd.... my mistake... so this is a great oppurtunity to replace.

Thanks for the review.

I saw this movie at the Theater long ago, and was very impressed with it. It has a great story line, and Viggo definitely delivers with his performance. I will definitely need to keep this movie, and Predator under my radar.

wow, I've never seen this movie. Based on the review it sounds pretty solid. Usually can't go wrong with a disney title. I usually agree with the reviews on here so I guess it's not too much of a leap for $20 on amazon.

your kinda sound like a crotchety old man at the start of the review (kids these days don't appreciate a fine film!) but I mean, come on. the trailers for this movie looked really boring. but based on the review, I might give it a shot. I'm a big fan of Lawrence of Arabia, Indy, and those other olden flicks, so perhaps this will do.

I saw this movie on DVD and loved it. I think Vigo is a great performer. I think recommending "Eastern Promises" is also in order.

Wow, be careful guys ! I saw this one in theater too, and I can tell you that comparing Hidalgo to Lawrence of Arabia is like comparing Windtalkers to Apocalypse Now. There is premium Cinema, and there is B-grade entertainment. True, Viggo does a pretty good job, but otherwise the movie is quite bland. The direction is average, so are the plot and the supporting roles. You won't get bored, but you won't get too excited either.
I, too, would love to see more old school adventure movies, but this just doesn't deliver.

Wow.... I thought Lawrence of Arabia sucked. Freegin BOOOORING with little or no action and it was like 4 focking hours long. Apocalypse Now also SUCKS. Damn.... guess we all have different tastes.
