Thumbs up 'Searchers' -- High-Def Digest review

Another Blu-ray review tonight:

Very cool to see Warner supporting BD-50s and this one indeed looks just as terrific as the HD DVD, which was pretty awesome. Definitely must-own if you like the movie.

Wow! a 5 for PQ. Curious, I notice that the HD DVD version got a 4.5. Yet you say both look same. Is the Blu-ray version sharper?

Default Can't wait to see it.

Can't wait to see it. I have only seen a few movies in Blue Ray and was a bit dissapointed, with the quality. After finding this site and reading the reviews of the films, not failing to mention a decent educated review of HD quality, will help with my future purchases. It reads as though, "The Searchers" will be a movie to buy. Keep up the good work!

The Searchers was one of the first movies I picked up on HD DVD. Assuming the Blu-ray sports the same transfer, you won't be disappointed. The deep focus VistaVision cinematography really shines on HD -- you lose the deep focus in the compression on the DVD.

Just watched it last night. Picture is astounding! To think this movie is over 50 years old. Peter's comment about current $100 million blockbusters not looking this good is totally on point. I must have commented to my girlfriend on how I couldn't believe the PQ about 5 times throughout the movie.

I already own this on DVD (the original, not remastered release) and I'm thinking I'll probably now buy the BD version to replace it.

when I play this movie on my PS3, it looks like the sound and dialogue are a little out of sync. Has anybody else had this problem?

I've been in a real Western mood lately, and I don't own any in my blu ray collection yet, and based on the reviews this was a blind buy. Looking forward to watching it soon.

Picked this up recently for really cheap at Amazon and had not seen the movie before. Wow. What a great movie, I am kicking myself for not watching this one sooner. Definitely a classic for me, and one that will be watched many times in the future. The PQ on this one is breathtaking. Kudos to Warner on a job well done.
