Default Warner plans "Book"-like Blu-ray Special Releases

Warner is planning to add a collectible spin to high-def packaging, by releasing a number of "Book"-like Blu-ray releases in the coming year. The first of these will be March 25th's 'Bonnie & Clyde' with 'Dirty Harry' and others to follow.

If you have any thoughts on this, feel free to discuss them here.

I think it's cool. Probably raises the MSRP a couple bucks, but that's no big deal.

I don't understand. As in they will look like books so you can put them in a bookshelf with books?

I love the idea. I enjoy special packaging (The Blade Runner Kit, Scarface Boxset, the E.T. Box set) so this is right up my alley

Sweet! Now I'm glad I didn't go and trade in for Blu-Ray version of these warner movies and I got killer deals on the relevant releases. When I go to double-dip -- it will sting less.

Re-releases with also PiP and Web features perhaps? I mean it's an easy way to double dip and the PiP and Web are already available on the HD DVDs.

I just hope the packaging isn't too large compared to the standard Blu-ray cases. It screws up my shelving, and thus brings my OCD issues to light.

IMO, this is ridiculous...why the heck would I want a book in the packaging of a digital medium to where it could get ripped, creased, soiled, etc.??? A step backwards in my mind. They could put whatever's in the book in a file on the disc!

I like the idea and for some of these, I might not mind getting the "book" version (NXNW for example...), but I'd hope we have an option to get this version or the regular version. Buying that $45 version of Close Encounters was an unrealistic and undesirable option for me until Amazon had it on sale for $23 a few months ago.

Me too. I know its picky but I hate it when studios start using different kinds of packaging, I want all my disc in the same packaging (it just looks better on a self). I hope the also release a version in a non-book form. They say they are releasing these for the collector's market well, not every who buys BD are "collectors." Some of us want just the movie without all this added fluff that tends to raise the price. So, WB, please release these in normal cases as well and give the consumer a choice.

It sort of reminds me of Universal's Legacy editions, Love em'.

This packaging would make a lot more sense if these were classic WB movies adapted from books.

I'll always prefer a nice sturdy BR case to packaging that wears and tears easily.

I'm not impressed either. I'm more interested in the disc itself and its content than what holds it.
