Thumbs up 'Big Fish' - High-Def Digest Review

With top-shelf video and reference-level audio, this Tim Burton fantasy film earns raves from our Kenneth Brown.

Default How did the reviewer use that player??

How did the reviewer play the BIG FISH Blu-Ray disc on a Toshiba HD DVD player (at the end of the review it says thats what was used)?

Does he have some special way of making it hybrid?

Whoops, cut and paste the wrong specs -- thanks for catching that! It's been corrected.

And naysayers like to say that Sony can't get anything right. Wasn't this first announced for a BD-25? I'm glad they let it breath on a BD-50, looks like it was worth it.

Well, I'm sorry to say, but I bought this title based on this review, and it looks horrible. The image does NOT have a 3D pop and it is certainly NOT better looking than other Burton films on either format. I, as well as many other on the AVS Forum, bought this title based on the glowing review it got and unfortunately, NOBODY has been impressed with it.

I already own the Standard Def version, so I put it into my Toshiba HD-A1, chose the scene where Edward first comes to Spectre, paused it, and switched between the SD version, and Blu-Ray version, which I had in the PS3, and there was little-to-no difference on my Toshiba 62HM196 DLP TV.

I'm sorry to say but this is a 3-star transfer AT BEST. The audio is great, but certainly not worth an upgrade if you already have the Standard version. I am very disappointed Mr. Brown for a review that couldn't have been further from the truth.

Up until this point, I've almost always agreed with the reviews on this forum, but unfortunately I am now going to have to take each review with a bigger grain of salt.

I would hope that in the future you could be a little more careful in review films and realize that you have a big responsibility to consumers. As soon as a great review goes up, it is reflected on thedvdwars.com (ie: Happy Feet, which is now #1 on HD-DVD.)

I urge you to re-watch that movie, compare it to the SD version, and post a correct review that will maybe not intice so many consumers to buy such a bad looking title.

Thank you.

I have to agree with movieguy85, I was disappointed in this transfer as well. I had to make sure my PlayStation 3 hadn't somehow gotten switched over to 480i. 3 to 3 1/2 stars at best for picture. I did think the sound was quite good, however.

That's just great. I was fine with the PQ until I read more of this thread. So I watched it again today, and the sad thing is that I'm afraid you guys are right. At best, it looks like a spectacular SD DVD transfer.
