I love that Patton and The Longest Day both get excellent reviews, but will The Sand Pebbles be released on time? There doesn't seem to be any word on it. And what happened to all the extras?

It looks like it will be a single disc release while Patton and Longest Day each have 2 discs. Yet Fox is charging the same $39.99 price on all three. And The SP 2-DVD release had more extras on it than seem to be on the upcoming Blu-release. I guess I don't mind that they are just offering the cut scenes from the roadshow release, instead of the full roadshow release that is in the 2-disc DVD release because the PQ of it wasn't that great from reviews. But the only other extras that appear to be on the Blu release are the commentary, a trivia track, an isolated score with commentary (the score by Jerry Goldsmith is wonderful), and a trailer.

According to Bill Hunt, Fox has ported over all the extras from the two disc DVD releases of Patton and LD. I wonder why they haven't done so for Sand Pebbles.

Missing seem to be the following:

new 65-min. documentary "The Making of The Sand Pebbles,"
three featurettes: "Steve McQueen Remembered," "Robert Wise in Command," "China 1926,"
two vintage featurettes: "A Ship Called San Pablo" and "The Secret of the San Pablo,"
several radio spots,
‘Still Galleries’ including:
‘Behind the Scenes’ (99 images)
‘Production Art’ (9 images)
‘Publicity’ (39 images)
‘Posters’ (19 images)
and an ‘Interactive Pressbook’

And separately in the DVD package was a reproduction of the roadshow souvenir book, plus photo cards.

It would be nice if Fox could include the above.

timbo, thanks for posting those. A few days ago, I took a chance and pre-oredered the 3-title bundle (Patton, Day, and Pebbles) from Amazon. I'm glad I did now. And I just read a good review on blu-ray.com.

I hope we get more classics like these soon.

The 3-packs on Amazon all seem to not come out until 2 weeks later just in case that matters to anyone. I'm ordering the individuals next week as I don't want to wait and I actually got most of them for $2 cheaper back when Amazon bumped their prices down for a few days.

I've owned the SD version of the Longest Day for awhile now, always loved that movie. I saw screen shots of the Blu Ray version last night and my jaw just about hit the floor! This is what high definition is all about! Can't wait!

A glowing review but it's hard to take it too seriously if he gave it A's across the board. I have heard some hints of much lower reviews from other people.

Irregardless mine is shipping today from Amazon.
