Image Entertainment has announced a May 20 release for the 1985 cult fave:

Extras include audio commentary with director John Badham and the screenwriters, plus a music and effects track.

Tech specs are 1080p video and DTS-MA 5.1 audio.

Retail is a nice price of $19.98.

Wow that is just kick ass news I cant wait to pick this up. Plus that price is pretty awesome. It was such a great movie and it still is will definitely be picking this up!!

Johnny 5 is ALIVE... in 1080p and DTS-MA!!!!

I loved this movie as a kid, the fact that it's horribly dated makes it even more funny. I'm glad to see Sony's releasing older movies on

Wow. I wasn't expecting this. It never even got an anamorphic DVD release. It even brings over all the special features, not that there were lots. Now we need more input (the sequel).

I was gonna say that! Wall-E is a total ripoff of the design of Johnny 5. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the reason why we are getting Short Circuit so early on BD! Not that I mind. I will give it a rent -- haven't seen it since I was a kid.
