Andrew Stanton talked about this issue at Wonder-Con during the Pixar Q&A. The eye design was actaully came about when he was at a Red Sox vs A's game in Oakland. He borrowed someone's binoculars and was screwing around with them and decided that the basic design would be perfect to show emotions.
He admitted that a lot of people have brought up the similarities for Johnny 5, and that he was not the inspiration for the design.
As for the price of $19.98... I'm already expecting a price correction to probably $29.98. It seems odd that Image would release a disc for that cheap already.

Los Locos kick your ass, Los Locos kick your face, Los Locos kick your balls into OUTER SPACE!!!
The 2nd one was pretty good. It was sad seeing him bleed battery acid, and then he went to the store and got all badass. Good times with the Short Circuit films. I love them both. -

They should put both films onto one disc. Warner did it with the Dirty Dozen and its sequel. Why not here? There should be enough disc space.

This is awesome. I was going to buy this on DVD a while back. Good thing I didn't. Now I will pick this up on blu-ray.
