Default 'Tony Bennett: An American Classic' - High-Def Digest Review

As we continue our recent tour of non-feature film high-def disc releases, Peter files this Blu-ray review of 'Tony Bennett - An American Classic.' Originally produced for NBC late last year, this one may be short, but it boasts great music (the list of music greats who join Bennett on stage is extraordinary) and dazzling production values (it was directed by 'Chicago' director Rob Marshall). As a Blu-ray release, 'An American Classic' also shines, with top shelf shot-on-HD video, crystal clean audio, and a nice package of exclusive high-def supplements.

I'm a big fan of Tony Bennett, I can easily make room for this in my collection!

After finally getting Blu-Ray/HD-DVD capability on Monday (woo hoo !) when my new LG dual format ROM drive arrived, this was the first HD title I watched in its entirety.

There is a slight update needed to the review, the bit rate PowerDVD Ultra reports for the PCM audio on this disc shows it is a full 48/24, rather than 48/16.

Just a small thing, but I am happy the extra 8 bits are there, regardless of whether in practice I can actually hear them make any difference

This is an excellent disc and a very well made. The movie was made with the same choreographer from the movie "Chicago".

Also the same director, production designer, costume designer and director of photography...

Just got my copy of this Blu Ray in the mail and I must say, this looks and sounds absolutely wonderful. A must have!
the duration of 42 minutes is a bit of a bummer though...
