Lionsgate Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray debut of Basic Instinct for May 29th. The Michael Douglas/Sharon Stone thriller arrives with a 1080P widescreen transfer of the unrated director's cut backed with Dolby Digital 5.1 EX and DTS HD audio. Bonus materials ported over from the previous DVD issues include an audio commentary with Paul Verhoeven and Jan De Bont, a second commentary with author Camille Paglia, "Blonde Poison: The Making of Basic Instinct" and "Cleaning Up Basic Instinct" featurettes, Storyboard Comparisons, original screen tests and the trailer. Retail is $29.99.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release Weeds: Season One on May 29th. The Showtime series arrives in a previously unreleased widescreen presentation in 1080p and 6.1 DTS HD Audio. Bonus materials will include sic commentary tracks with cast & crew, "Smoke and Mirrors" Original Marijuana Mockumentary, "Smokey Snippets," Showtime Original Content including a special on suburbia, Agrestic Herbal Recipes and the "More Than A Friend" Music Video by All Too Much. Retail is $29.99.

Don't forget about the best new show of 2006, Dexter!! HBO has something to learn from Showtime, alright, after canceling Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome, The Comeback, Tenacious D, K Street, and many other phenomenal shows.

As far as Weeds price goes, it is really good except you have to remember it is only 10 episodes of 30 min each. Still way cheaper than HBO shows, talk about inviting pirating! Who spends that much for box sets?!?

I have been waiting for Basic Instinct in high-definition for quite a while now! In Europe it was released on that other format a couple of weeks ago by Canal+. Now we can have it, too, and in glorious dts HD audio and most importantly - thank you very much, Lionsgate! - in the Unrated Director's Cut!
Cannot wait to see it for the first time in full 1080p splendor!

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Dexter: The First Season for release on August 21st. Showtime's hit new drama series arrives to DVD with all twelve one-hour episodes presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Extras on the four-disc set include two audio commentary tracks by the cast, "The Academy of Blood: A Killer Course" featurette, two bonus episodes of the Showtime series "Brotherhood" and something called "N Technology" featuring a free Showtime series episodic download and a consumer sweepstakes for a Sony HD television & more. Retail is $42.99.
