Default 'Sleeping Beauty' -- pre-release buzz

Disney has finally set a date for 'Sleeping Beauty,' its first Platinum title on Blu-ray:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/sleepingbeauty.html

The date is October 7, and retail $34.95.

Disney says the press release is still on the way, so the only specs known at the moment are that it will be BD-Live-enabled, plus will contain the studio's first-ever PCM 7.1 Surround track.

We'll have more as soon as it comes in...

it was funny because i had mentioned something about disney needing to restore and release their classic animated films then a minute later i see a preview for this one... i was thinking they would pick a different movie for the first bluray release but at least they are finally digging into the vaults

This is a definite buy for me. All of the platinum titles will be. I hope Disney also goes back and releases a few other titles from their library like Mary Poppins, that would be great in high-def, as well as titles like The Black Hole, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and of course Fantasia.

Not only will it be great to have this film in high-def, but the uncompressed soundtrack I am equally looking forward to. Glad they picked the first release to be this film, with a stereo soundtrack!

My daughter will wear this one out.

It will be interesting to see the new print and audio goodies. The final battle should be a treat.

You have to give props to them for squeezing every last bit of PR out of these titles - wasn't this originally talked about at CES 2007? 18 months of buzz? Better yet, we can look forward to page-topping headlines for the release of the cover art, spec announcements and (hopefully not) release date bump.

Disney releases are a strange animal because the kids don't really care if its on HDM, but I pick them up because its a "family" movie experience. Of course, this didn't stop me from picking up Cars TWICE after seeing it in the theaters with few fireworks.
