Default 'Crimson Tide' – High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'Crimson Tide.' He's a fan of the film (directed by one of his faves, Tony Scott) and says this Blu-ray release leaves previous standard DVDs in the dust. His biggest complaint is that the Unrated Extended Cut that came out on DVD in 2006 is not included here. Still, he says the video and audio tracks on this edition are top-notch.

I remember this as a great movie, two acting titans throwing down. I can't stand the double dipping garbage. I suppose I am just of the opinion that a high definition film should be the definitive version of it.

I saw this back in the theater when I was in high school. Ever since, it's been one of my favorite movies, and the only movie released yesterday that was a 'must buy' for me. The sound really does blow you away - especially the 'Roll Tide' scene prior to their departure. Needless to say, I was NOT disappointed in this Blu-ray.

You should definitely give this a rent!

Blu-ray

6 years ago we always had this movie repeating itself in my works lunch room, I would walk in from time to time never seeing the movie from start to finish. I bought it on Blu-ray on Tuesday and just got time to watch it tonight, and I agree with the review 100%. Great Movie, and the quality is amazing compared to how i remember it in our lunch room, and I actually had to take a look outside to see if the snow turned into rain, because the sound was so crisp and clear!

This is one of my all time favourite action movies. Two of my favourite actors ripping into each other, a stellar supporting cast, nail-biting suspense, and - this is really unusual for an action movie - a story that makes you think. I would pick this up in a flash if it were region free (no word on that yet) and if it were the director's cut. I'm not double dipping at these prices.

Two of my favorite actors Washington and Hackman doing a Navy movie, excellent. You can put these two in a movie serving coffee at Starbucks, and I'd watch it.

Crimson Tide has been one of my favorite movies of all times. Having been in the Navy, I enjoyed watching the two top guys in charge duking it out. In Crimson Tide, is hard to tell who is right and who is wrong. Because they're both right, and they're both wrong. It's one of those "damn if you do, damn if you don't." I got the Blu-ray version but have not had the chance to watch it yet. Looking forward to it though.

I preordered this flick from Amazon. I'm dissappointed that it won't contain the extended edition though.

Oh well. It is still a great movie. I'll just have to restrain myself if they decide to release the extended edition later on.

What region are you? this has been out in the UK for a while now, and that is region free. I have it and have a region A player.

so if you have a region B player the least you can do is buy the UK version (don't know how it compares to this release?), or the UK version being region-free gives a good chance the US release will also be.

I love this movie....but I am not going to fall for Disney's tricks again. I bought this, and the Crow, and so many other titles on DVD when they first came out (bare bones, every one) and then they re-released all of them with better transfers, or better sound, or more extras or a different cut.

They will bring out a new version of this on Blue in 2-3 years. I don't watch it that often, so I can wait. If I need a High Def version to fix my desires, I will rent it on Blue, or rent it on Apple TV in High Def (if they have it, I have not checked).

Thanks for the info, I'll look into that. But the UK version isn't the director's cut either, right? (hard to tell on amazon.co.uk)
