Default 'Space Ace' -- pre-release buzz

Digital Leisure has gone back to the '80s arcade to pull out another gem, 'Space Ace'

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/spaceace.html

The disc has been fully remastered in 1080p video and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround.

Extras include a Picture-in-Picture commentary, interviews with the creators, a 16:9 and 4:3 viewing mode option, and another option to watch the animation uninterrupted without playing the game.

Retail is $29.95, and street date April 8.

I don't see on the DL website any indication that there is a 4:3 viewing mode. Is that confirmed? I had to pass on Dragon's Lair after I found they cropped it to 1.78 for widescreen (I was rather pissed about that). Space Ace is an old favorite of mine so it's a purchase as long as it's not cropped.

Edit: Nevermind, I found it.

Unhappy

Hey guys,

I'm writing my diploma thesis about casual games on blu-ray-disc so I'm very interested in all gaming stuff on blu-ray.

Does anybody know how exactly this game looks like? I mean, which genre, which gameplay? It says "using simple joystick commands" in the article, what does that mean exactly?

The problem is, I cannot order this game in Germany

Maybe someone of you has some experience with dagons lair? Plz let me know!

Greetings from Germany.
Daniel

These describe the original games:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon%27s_lair

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Ace

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon%27s_Lair_II

Here's a lousy video of someone playing the arcade version of DL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVvlTx49l5k

Everytime you hear the "blip" sound in the video the player has just moved the joystick or hit the button to avoid/defeat an obstacle.

By today's standards the gameplay is extremely disappointing. The joystick and button would be replaced by controls on your blu-ray remote. You're not constantly moving the joystick/button to control your character like you would in a traditional arcade game. You only do so at pre-determined decision points. At each decision point you have a small time window to enter the correct move (L, R, UP, DOWN, BUTTON) or you die. Sometimes you're prompted for a move by a flash on part of the screen.

When I was a kid I tried to play this game but couldn't do anything because I was using the player 2 joystick like a sucker and didn't realize it.
I never had the opportunity to play the game again but it stuck with me all those years (mainly because I'm an animation fan) so I'm interested in getting this, when the price drops eventually since the game is pretty limited.

Definitely buying this one, they really did a good job with the Dragons Lair release. And this port is going to be even better, I always liked Space Ace more than Dragons Lair.

It is a shame that there is no way to include lightgun support, because MadDog would be awesome
