Default 'Underdog' – High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Underdog' has been posted. He says the movie is aimed squarely at kids. Still, this Blu-ray disc is technically impressive, with a vivid video transfer and an involving PCM audio track. Worth a rent for parents who think their kids might enjoy this one, but others won't be interested.

Finally.

Been waiting for this review for a damn long while

Completely agreed on all counts, sans the film's rating, since I would give it a 5/10, rather than a 4.

Definitely a good disc to show off visual presentation in my opinion

Woops!

I think I'll leave it that way just so everyone can have a chuckle at my expense. Thanks as always for posting!

Way too hard on the movie itself...but at least he didn't go for the easy Jim Belushi's career going to the dogs line. Patrick Warburton always plays a strong moron. Just once I'd like to see him play a normal person in a live action movie. Really, I didn't see too much to complain about with any of the actors. The story was cute enough...although as pointed out not really the Underdog of our youth. Ken may have been a little optimistic expecting a three year old to enjoy this one though. Maybe when he's five.

I don't have any problems with modern CGI adaptations of the programs from my younger days. My very first LP was The Alvin Show, and I'd really rather they kept the bathroom humor out of Alvin and the Chipmunks...but just the same, I'm glad kids today get to experience them in a form that's updated to be more relevant to them.

Actually I liked this movie, and I was a fan of the cartoon when I was younger. I am on my 3rd viewing now. Very good quality disc transfer, sound is great too. If you go into this movie looking for a fun time with a decent story and a bit of heart, you will have it. I suggest you give it a chance. Has some nice touching moments too. I don't understand all the negative reviews and low boxoffice, but to each their own. I personally liked the idea of showing how the dog became Underdog, how he started flying, how he got the name, plus they use the original musical theme in various versions. We had 3 kids over of various ages (6, 8,10) for one of the showings and they all loved it. Judge this one on your own and you might really enjoy it and if you have kids or don't, give it a shot. I rented it first and then bought the blu-ray.

Glad to hear other people and their kids enjoyed this one -- like I said, after my son watched 'Alvin and the Chipmunks,' 'Garfield,' and other live action reboots, he was in love. Maybe he's too young, but this one just left him cold.

Thanks as always for posting your family's experience with the flick! I'm sure other people will find the counter opinion very helpful.

My kids have not really shown a lot of interest in live action movies, but this one had dogs in it. The fact that it was a talking, flying, superhero dog only added to the fun.

At our house the kids-oriented BD get heavier rotation than the adult ones - that didn't sound right. Since we have not purchased recent Disney/BV releases in SD so it makes the case for that second player.

Ken, you think Transformers was better than this? Not trying to sound like a wise-guy or anything here, but Underdog was SO much better than Transformers. Better story, and a better run time. Transformers seemed to drone on and on and on.
But now that I know it has great picture quality, I think I'll pick this one up now. Thanks for your review.

Definately recommend this as far as picture quality, the PCM is awesome as well. I really like the musical score.
