Btw, according to some on animeondvd, with the Japanese release, this is another 480i upconvert. Since it was done inside a computer in at 480 resolution (gotta love digital animation and stuck resolution), they just upscaled it..

What do you mean by "another 480i upconvert"? I have yet to see Bandai Visual to release a 480i upconvert. At least on American shores.

It's probably an upconvert. The source at blu-ray.com lists the video as 4:3 aspect ratio.

The AIR boxset released by Pony Canon is one, but I don't believe that there are others. But yes, Yukikaze is definitely an upconvert as confirmed on by the press materials for the Japanese release of this title.

Also, the list price is actually $149.99.

why the hell do they keep releasing ova crap (directly to video animes) instead of high profile animes like: Bleach, One Piece.. etc

and what with the price tag? I usually avoid ova's even for free (via bittorrent)

I am keeping myself away from these anime from Bandai, they are super-expensive and without HD DVD counterpart, this will be a rent for me.

THe 1st 2 discs are 50Gb while the 3rd is 25GB encoded with AVC at 1080i. Bandai's website lists the 1st 2 as 4:3 while the 3rd is 16:9. I have the DVDs and I would say that this is a rental unless you are an avid anime mech fan ala Macross/Robotech. BTW the American voice of Roy Fokker has a minor role in this series. I'd probably pick it up if it was on sale. Bandai Visual USA's releases will always be pricey, one note it does include the English dub from Bandai Entertainment's earlier DVD release. BV USA track record on including dubs seems to be only if it was previously done like Jin-Roh or Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise. BV USA's prices will always be the most expensive of Blu-ray's, HD-DVDs, and DVDs since they are using a Japanese pricing structure unlike their sister company Bandai Entertainment. So don;t expect any discounts any time soon.

I love how everyone looks at the list price and says "it's expensive"

When did you ever once see a movie on amazon.com or most any retailer for list price? I have never, not once.

I'll pass on this. Hopefully they will release Cowboy Bebop soon. That I would buy. I'm afraid to see what they will charge for it, though.

When I read your post it seems to me like you are saying that no 4:3 material can be in high definition. Which just isn't true.
