I was hoping, for the dvd, that they'd re-edit the film to include an ending. Maybe some character development, to go with it.

I think I'll hold out for a possible extended cut at Christmas.

The best thing you will get out of this movie it’s the Polar bear fight. That was some serious CG. Other than that it’s pathetic. No better than HP, not as original as Narnia. I think they have some decent ideas on paper after all. I was very disappointed with a few CGI techniques they used in some scenes (I am not going to tell you until you watch the movie). But if you are looking for a fresh new film you will be ok. In the other hand, Golden compass was conceived to be a trilogy so be ready to ask yourself questions about the end of the movie. Read the novel first if you have the opportunity. Do not even think of Daniel Craig as the same Daniel you saw on 007. You barely see him three times and he couldn’t even fight a few men. With some amount of luck we will see that in Golden Compass 2.

Don't get me wrong the movie was ok but no more than that.

I went to this, and I loved it. Great effects and story, though character development could have been better, I think that's what hurt. A definite buy for me.

The cool, subtle visual effects are enough to make this one a sure-to-buy BRD. The polar bears are neat too. Oh yeah, and it's exclusive!

Terrible but great cgi, the movie was getting ok toward the end.
It was a flop.

I couldn't care less if this was to be the prettiest Blu-ray released so far, the film was a travesty without an ounce or the book's originality, daring or scale shining through.

I've read the books, and I saw the movie. The movie sucked. Think Eragon.

They cut out the storyline, and made up for it by having the characters inexplicably talk at the audience to fill in the gaps.

It's not like they had to cut out all the plot and character development in order to avoid running too long: the movie is really short.

It basically alternates between the characters talking about things they have no motivation to explain except for the benefit of the audience, and special effects action scenes.

They were going for a LOTR/Narnia killer, but totally failed to create any sort of epic atmosphere.

I'm a massive fan of the books and to be honest i was disappointed. But then again people usually are with books that they love adapted to film.

That said it was decent, just didn't have that 'WOW' factor that the books did. Daniel Craig was exactly like the character he plays (as i had imagined in my head) as was Nicole. Hopefully it'll get better as the trilogy goes on. One things for sure though it should look amazing in HD as it's that kind of film. I'll probably buy it just for that!

Default A definite buy

I am a huge fan of the books and I just LOVED the movie. I will admit it wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed what I got. And hopefully the sequels will come along too. Here is hoping this one will sell well on BD and DVD. I know I will definitely pre-order the BD.

Default Blind buy for me

I purposely didn't see this in the theaters since i knew i would buy in on blu ray when it came out. Despite the luke warm reviews, fantasy movies always intrigue me. I mean Stardust got a horrible review here and on other sites, and i personally really enjoyed the hd dvd.
