Default 'Dragon Ball Z: Broly' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of the 'Dragon Ball Z: Broly' double
feature. Although he enjoyed the movies themselves more than he
expected, as a Blu-ray release he says this one's a mixed bag,
boasting a nicely remastered video transfer, but flat audio and a
total lack of extras.

just missed it for $13.99 during the Amazon sell. This BD was a pretty good transfer considering what they had to work with.

Movies themselves were decent.

Wow, that was an awesome price. I cant believe I missed it. Ill wait for the next sale, unless I decide I cant wait any longer. I saw this at bestbuy for $24.99 and I dont think thats a bad price.

i was a big dbz fan... but grew up and that ahy day of paying over 20 bucks for three episodes was wearing me thin.... didnt have a job back then......

i would love to get the series with teh remastered edition... shit even this one...

but seeing that the remastered versions are severely cropped, im wondering if this bd release has met that same fate... if so... ill definately pass....

The release was ok. I think you could get close to the visual clarity if you use the PS3 to upconvert the dvd's over hdmi, but if you don't own either movie and can find this at a good price (like I did during the sale) then it's worth it.

Though, I find it both laughable and pathetic that this release lacks a pop up menu, the most basic of blu-ray features. It forces you to do scene selection the old fashioned way. Hopefully future releases by Funimation will correct this, otherwise I doubt I'll be buying much more from them.

Unlike the TV series, which has an OAR of 1.33:1, the movies were meant to be projected in theaters at 1.85:1. So this Blu-Ray release is presented in a valid aspect ratio.

I wonder how this compares to the upconverted Dragon Box movie set. I bet this looks a little sharper due to the high-res but that that may look better overall due to the better master that had a frame-by-frame restoration.

My version says Dolby Digital 5.1 on the packaging, but the disc shows up as "DTS 2.0" during the menu and "DTS 5.1" at 1.5mbps(according to readings on my Elite receiver and PS3) during the features. Anyone else?

Sure that's awesome for you, but I prefer japanese and like I have said in a thread I started why don't I get at lest a stereo japan track? Anyway I will be double diping the movies as they come, this set is the best I have ever seen dbz, its still the same mono track but the picture more then makes up for it to me. 1980s mono sounds better then 2000s 5.1 dub yuck.
