Default 'War' – High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'War.' He says the film is flawed, but has a startling twist ending that makes the film worth a rent. As for this Blu-ray release, the video transfer has some problems, but the audio track is reference quality in every way.

I picked this up figuring the action scenes would be pretty good. Then again, this was also my thinking in picking up Transporter2 and I have yet to watch that.

Having just updated my receiver to accept 7.1 over HDMI it is nice to have another 7.1 pcm title to play. I think 3:10 and Avengers are the only other ones in my collection.

I thought he was pretty harsh on this one. I agree with his assessment of the movie itself. I thought the twist was fine and made the movie worthwhile. I liked the video. I thought it looked pretty darn good. Audio was the crown jewel though...no question about that.
I also liked the trivia track even though he dissed it. Lots of good info if you are into that sort of stuff. Apparently Ken isn't.

Agreed. I thought the pq was about a 4,imho. Not bad...few flaws..but not bad. I liked the film. Especially the ending. Triva tracks are a feature I have always enjoyed.

cueCrew, check out Roger Ebert's review of Transporter 2. He makes the movie sound like such a fun corker that you might enjoy it. 'Course, I haven't seen it either, but if I had a copy, Ebert makes me think it might be the perfect movie for a cold Friday night.

Sounds like a plan. I had no idea who Statham was when I rented the original, then ran out and bought them both with Crank (which i could have passed on PQ aside, just not my thing I guess).

Probably the Audi envy. To be fair, I haven't watched "Unleashed" yet, either. Wait a second... I'll stop typing and go watch movies!

PCM 24-bit 7.1-channels at 6.9mbps? I have to wonder how that figure was arrived at.

Yesterday I read the site's review of Good Luck Chuck with PCM 7.1-channel 16-bit audio at 6.9mbps. That reviewer also seems to be using the same broken calculator.

I thought the PQ on this movie was pretty good, with the AQ being the crown jewel. Was the movie flawed, yes, but it was still a watchable movie with some great action scenes.

Oh man, Unleashed has some of my favourite fight scenes ever. Yuen Woo Ping FTW!

What exactly where the bonus features of this disc? I thought the warchest thing (or whatever it was called) as well as PIP were for profile 1.1 yet they played in my profile 1 player. Am I mistaken or was this not a "true" 1.1 disc?

Oh it is a 1.1 disc.

It has not 1 but two PIP options.

One with the director babblin & the other is a narrative of "did you know" kinda stuff with interviews with the actors as well.

There is a bunch of other stuff too but I can't remember. (don't care for extra features at all!)

I watched about 30 minutes of it & I thought the PQ wasn't perfect nor demo worthy but it still a noticeable improvement from SD.
