Default ‘Man On Fire’ – High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Kenneth’s review of ‘Man On Fire.’ He says it’s a technical powerhouse on Blu-ray, featuring a striking video transfer and a potent DTS HD MA audio track that will certainly wow fans of the film and catch the eye of any newcomers sampling it for the first time.

I saw this movie on SD, and Denzel was definitely on fire in this movie. I loved it. He kicked ass left and right. Great choice for an upcoming release on Blu-Ray

Wow. Other than the disc having no extras, is that the best reviewed Blu-ray in terms of film, PQ, and AQ? Now if only Fox would lower the retail!

Great movie! I don't agree with the Five Stars, but I'd definitely give it a solid 4 - 4.5.

Nice review-- the movie was under-appreciated when it was released. It is VERY dark, and not recommended viewing for someone looking for light entertainment.

However, the fact that Fox couldn't even be bothered to port over the DVD extras instantly catapults this right into the "rental" category. Unless it can be found somewhere for under $15.

Just unforgivable laziness by the studio. They've got no problem loading on trailers to pimp their other releases, but value-add extras for consumers get the shaft? This kind of thing is basically a giant middle finger from the studios to consumers. And a contemptuous one at that.

It's not laziness, it's intentional early adopter rape. Release a bare bones edition now, EAs will likely pick it up (even with it's crazy high price tag), then later when the market has grown they can rehash all the previously available special features as an "All new first time on Blu-ray Special Collector's Edition", and collect on all the double dips. Quite frankly it irks me and is one reason I haven't bought any Fox BDs yet, I don't like to be blatantly taken advantage of like that. There's no excuse for not at least including the special features that are already available on a movie's DVD counter part.

I'll be waiting for the SE on this one...

Zodiac? That didn't come out on Blu-ray...did it?? Nah, I kid. It will soon enough.

Anyhoo...I love Man on Fire. Due to the visuals mentioned in the review, though, I thought I'd be happy with the upconverted DVD. After reading this, though, I may have to reconsider. Too bad we received exactly ZERO copies at my Best Buy and every store in the district!

I'll be picking this up, if I can find it somewhere in stores. I absolutely love the movie. Fox annoys me with these barebones releases though.
