Default 'Kiss of the Dragon' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Kiss of the Dragon' is up, and I'm sorry to say that it isn't pretty. Released back in November, let this one serve as a reminder of how far we've come since then. The video is awful, the supplements are thin... the only true highlight is the DTS HD 5.1 soundtrack.

Finally a one star video rating for a movie. Just goes to show you that any format no matter how great it is will have a couple of dogs mixed in. Hopefully the next batch of Fox releases will be better.

Most titles from BD has been good. It is the titles from Fox that usually get low remarks.

What the heck is Fox doing

Wow, since when does a movie have to be realistic to be entertaining. For anyone who is even remotely interested in martial arts this movie has some awsome fight scences that are not heavily wire dependent, compared to Kill Bill or Croutching Tiger. I'm not sure what movie this reviewer was watching, but Jet Li does all of his own stunts and they are way more believable than Matt Damon defeating hordes of inept goons.

I'm not saying that this is a great movie.. but one star? Please.... the fight scenes alone are worth 2.5 stars. But hey not eveyone knows how to enjoy action movies.

The movie is great!!!! I loved it!!!! However I think this may be the 1st HD movie I have watched that did not really look any better than the SD version.

A 1-star, really? Intresting. I'll have to get this from Netflix to check it out.

Why does it seem like Fox is not doing their best with Blu-Ray releases?

-Just about all their movies are on a 25GB discs. Everyone else has moved on to 50GB.

-They keep using MPEG-2/MPEG-4, many studios are using AVC MPEG-4, now.

Common' Fox, catch up with the other studios.

They better not f*** up Man On Fire when they release it in May. That's the most anticipated HD movie for me!

MPEG2 is not the issue, it has more to do with the source matieral. Fox has put out good transfers like Ice Age: meltdown, transporter 1+2, Kingdom of heaven, X3, F4, AVP, courage under fire, speed, men of honor, windtalkers, usual suspects, phone booth, entrapment, chain reaction... all got 4.5 or 4 stars for PQ. That should refute the claims that they can't make a good transfer. They do need to make better selections as far as which movies to transfer to HD because you can't turn water to wine.

Kiss of the Dragon isn't that bad on Blu-Ray. Ouch!

I agree 20th Century BDs seem inconsistent in the PQ department. Chain Reaction makes Under Seige look good!

No wonder fox remve 6 titles for technical reasons - they need to go BD50.

Good lord I hope that Jet's other movies wont be done poorly. I'd be pretty upset the pq in Hero was done bad. The DVD quality of Hero was pretty crappy and I'm hoping that they don't take the same ho hum attitude with the bd version.
