Default 'Independence Day' -- pre-release buzz

Time to re-open this thread, as Fox has sent us a new date for 'ID4':

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/independenceday.html

It's now due on March 11, 2008.

Specs include a BD-50 with 1080p/AVC video and DTS-MA audio.

Extras include two audio commentaries, 4 trailers, a BD-Java interactive game, trivia track, personal scene selections, a search index and D-Box.

Retail remains $39.95.

Kind of good to see they're not half-assing a release for once. From not releasing the Unrated Mr and Mrs Smith Blu Ray to my Transporter Blu Ray's it's nice to see Fox actually attempting to make decent extras for once.

Got the UK version, not the best Fox release. Seems the only difference will be the BD-java game, maybe that was the hold up.

Yeah, but...

Fans hoping for a high-def replica of the same extensive extras found on the two-disc DVD version of the alien blockbuster will be disappointed, as the studio will be offering only a limited numbers of extras on the Blu-ray. Included on the set will be two audio commentaries with the filmmakers, plus a suite of four theatrical trailers. All of the previous edition's other video-based materials have not been ported over.

I was kind of hoping for another 1.1 PiP title from Fox, but this does nicely.

Fox what the hell?

Screw the Java game and give us all the extras from the 2 disc DVD edition (and high def extras would be nice).

The Java games are kind of shit, I would rather have all the extras...

I'd agree. I can't believe the only features are commentaries and trailers.
What the chuff is taking up the rest of that 50Gb disk then!!!?

People say the extras on HD-DVD are worthless and Fox listened.

How was that UK release as far as quality? ID4 is a 1996 movie, so I hope Fox touched up the film and did a re mastering to eliminate dust and scratches type things. Any one know if this is being done or was done? When the review arrives here at HighDefDigest I will surely be hoping it's a good one, I'll jump into Blu just for this movie!!=D

Its ok, not the best. First half good, second half the PQ is a little soft. The only real major flaw is the dated FX, can't really blame the Blu for that.

On a separate note, Fox released Ronin in the UK to. Fantastic PQ + AQ.

I ran both versions in parallel on my setup and was totally under whelmed

They cleaned the picture up,removed dirt and blemishes.
Made a few colour correction.
Overall its a very miniscule upgrade over the dvd.Very few scenes carry more detail than the standard dvd.
Also the release is the Theatrical cut so expect the special edition release sometime in the future.
