Default 'Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford' -- pre-release buzz

Warner has announced a Blu-ray and HD DVD release for the Brad Pitt western 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford':

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/assa...essejames.html

Tech specs include 1080p/VC-1 video, though no audio details are yet available.

Given the film's 160-minute runtime and the one-disc configuration, extras are slim, with only a 30-minute documentary and the theatrical trailer.

Retail is $35.98, and street date February 26, 2008.

OK, now Warner just has to hurry up and announce In The Valley of Elah and I'll be a happy camper. It's great to hear that this film is coming out in high def because I was scared for a minute.

Wow, someone at Warner must be scanning your mind:

Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'In the Valley of Elah' to Blu-ray on February 19th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No specs have been announced at this time, but expect the usual VC-1 and Dolby Digital treatment. Extras include the two featurettes "After Iraq" and "Coming Home".

Now this kinda of sucks for Blu-Ray due to HD-DVD limitations. We all know that the comment below really is suppose to read HD-DVD 30GB single disc issue.

"Given the film's length and the single-disc configurations of both the Blu-ray and the HD DVD, extras are predictably slim, with only the 30-minute documentary "The Assassination of Jesse James: Death of an Outlaw" and the original theatrical trailer included."

I just hope that if war cont. and LOTR comes to HD; I hope the blu-ray version won't be handicap by the HD-DVD 30 gb limitations. Instead they should just release it on the Blu-Ray version at full specs and then downscale a second copy for the HD-DVD.

Or split the film across two discs.

And what explains the similarly weak DVD extras?

The fact that it cost Warner $30 million and only made $3.9 million domestically has nothing to do with the weak package huh?

I mean cause come on, why not throw money at an under performing film huh? That makes perfect sense doesn't it?

Come on people.

I have not seen the movie yet. But, going by the quote off this article "the studio is bringing the much-buzzed-about Oscar hopeful", then it would be a great idea for the studio to put it out soon. You put "Oscar Nominated" or "Oscar Award Winner" on anything, and people are more likely to pick it up as a rental or purchase. That's why studios drool over that little "Oscar" addition to their marketing campaigns. Plus, they have to take advantage that the movie is still fresh in the mind of movie watchers, that way they won't have to spend millions more on marketing.

I wanted to see this in the theaters. Anyone seen it here? What were your thoughts? It seems like the kind of movie that I would like so I'm wondering if I should buy it on Blu-Ray....
