Default Lake House - High-Def Digest

Peter Bracke on Lake House:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/lakehouse.html

'The Lake House' is a well-meaning film that, unfortunately, is a bit too convoluted for its own good. Whatever chemistry Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock generate is blunted by the obtuse narrative. This Blu-ray release is also nothing to get excited about. The transfer and soundtrack are no more than perfectly fine, and the supplements just about nil. So unless you're a diehard fan of this one, I'd say leave it as a Netflix rental at best.

I was going to pick this up but after the review I think I'll pass and just pick it up cheaply on DVD instead.

How come? Due to the video and sound quality or the movie itself?

I'm not a fan of soft transfers, and I think I would struggle to see the difference between SD-DVD. The same thing happened with Superman Returns which I was very disappointed with PQ wise.

This softness seems to be a recurring theme among all of the Warner titles. I've seen Phantom of the Opera and Superman Returns as well, and both are very cleen and "sharp," but lack a lot of fine detail. I know that sounds like an oxy moron, but it makes sense when you see them.

I know what you mean and I would rather they show the fine detail myself. I know Directors make the decision as to what kind of transfer a movie should have but it seems a waste on HD when you have a soft transfer - it doesn't feel like you're getting the most from it - despite it being the director's intention in terms of the look!

The Lake House is a chick flick that I can actually stand watching after what sounds to be a dissapointment when it comes to picture quality I will just get the standard DVD instead of the blu ray. I usually buy both the standard and the blu-ray maybee when the blu ray is cheaper.
