Default 'Babel' - High-Def Digest Review

It may not come out until February 20, but Paramount was nice enough to send us an advance copy of 'Babel' on Blu-ray, and Peter's review is now up. Despite some trepidation going in, Peter quite liked the film itself, and gives both the video and audio their props with 4 (out of five) stars apiece. Alas, with a trailer as the only included extra, seems like the studio is prepping this one for a double dip sometime soon, so buyer beware.

this movie indeed was superb. Not for all but once you've finished watching, you walk away with something

very good review but I believe there are only 4 families, The americans (pitt blanchett etc...) the mexicans, (nanny and her sons...) the japanese (Deaf girl and her dad...) and the moroccans. and only filmed in 4 countries, not six.

The Japanese tie-in seemed quite weak to me, I was expecting something a bit more profound. Good film though, but probably doesn't have the same impact that Crash did.

really? if anything, i think it was one of the most important aspects of the film. All the girl wanted was some attention so she was willing to do anything (sex, drink, drugs) to just get some attention while the American kids had all the love and attention in the world.

Then Brad and his wife were in a foriegn country that they knew nothing about but the hospitality of the the locals gave them such attention that was missing in such a high tech and modern landescape of Japan

This was a hard movie to make it through and although the PQ was great I am not sure I am happy I spent 2 hours of my life watching it. I think I checked the running time about 6 times.

It was the first time I watched HDTV with strobes without any macroblocking which was good to see that digital video can handle strobes with enough throughput.

I am going to skip this movie because it's content. Even though it will be only movie that I will not purchase on Amazon's recent Top 10 Blu-rays.

What about its content? (I assume that's what you mean, even though you technically said "I am going to skip this movie because it is content.")

i think the reviewer missed the point of the movie. it's not that we're all the same. we aren't. it's about communication (hence the name of the movie that is fed to us: Babel)- and how lack of a relationship through communication (between husband and wife, father and daughter, etc.) can greatly impact/hurt those we (are supposed to) love.
