Thumbs up Mission: Impossible III -- the best Blu-ray yet?

Hands down, this is the best Blu-ray title I've yet seen:

Despite MPEG-2, and no uncompressed soundtrack, this is a fabulous looking and sounding disc. The lack of any exclusive HD content is a negative, but certainly Blu-ray is closing the perceived quality gap with HD DVD...

I have actually not seen this film yet, so this might be the first film I watch once I set up my Playstation 3. But after I am done I have to watch the Fifth Element as well.

Great review Peter.

There never should have been a gap. Blu-Ray had the quality mindshare berfore Sony blew it with poor initial releases. Glad to read the review. I'm going to pick this up.

Excellent review. I too have this pre-ordered. Actually I went ahead and pre-ordered the 4 disc set that include all three parts.

Fantastic review Peter. There really doesn’t seem to be anything between both formats for this release. It’s just a bit of shame there was no lossless codecs included as I’m sure there will be some SE later down the line that will most likely include this.

I think I'm going to get the impossible missions collection blu-ray that includes all 3. This is going to be even better since I don't even have 1 or 2 on DVD anyway, so it's not like I'm rebuying the movie.

The audio on Blu-ray is 640Kbps while on the HD-DVD version it is 1.5 @ 24 bit.

PeterB did confirm 1.5Mbps for the HD DVD and he's trying to get clarification on the Blu-ray side.

Jiggawhat is correct. The maximum DD bitrate is 640Kbps.

DD+ is not mandatory on Blu-ray players but it is on HD DVD players.

That will probably swing it for HD-DVD for me - although apart from that there seems very little difference between the two.

Yup DD+ and IME

That's enough for me if I was a fence sitter.
