Default 'Oldboy' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'Oldboy.' He's a huge fan of the film, and says this Blu-ray is a nice upgrade over previous DVD editions, boasting a decent video transfer, an amazing DTS-HD Master Audio track and a lengthy list of exhaustive supplements.

We're getting there. Currently, I'm simply making a notation if I think the track as-is lacks something fundmental that will be restored with the full DTS-HD MA treatment. While it will no doubt increase the quality across the board, that doesn't mean that people should be disappointed with the current audio track in its core form.

'Oldboy' sounded amazing -- moreso than any of its incarnations on DVD. I'm sure it will eventually sound crisper via the full potential of DTS-HD MA, but it still packs a significant punch even in the current form most people will hear it in.

Oh i would never be disappointed with a 1.5 mps DTS track. The core track on ff rise of the silver surfer was amazing. Love the site guys keep up the good work.

Am I the only person that found Old Boy to be bad? The story was hacked to bits and the acting was laughably bad. And then maybe I just saw a different movie called Old Boy that featured Korean actors in a plot that had no soul and bad pacing and ended with the Deus Ex Machina?

Definitely not -- I have friends that fall on either side of the fence when it comes to the director's films. This flick is an absolute love-it-or-hate-it experience!

I really like this movie, but like Ken said I know plenty of folks who like it and a bunch of folks who hate it as well.

I must say that this was a great review by Ken, I really enjoyed reading it from top to bottom...keep up the good work!

I first watched it together with 4 other friends and the wife. I REALLY loved it, and everyone else REALLY hated it. This is one of those movies that can truly divide an audience - much like Clockwork Orange or Man Bites Dog in that way.

I understand those films. I watched the Squid and the Whale with several people and they all at the end said "never make me watch anything like that again" and I was glowing and giddy by how amazing the film was. I'm an eclectic kind of guy and I enjoy Asian cinema quite a bit, Three Extremes was great as an example, but Old Boy was... as described.

I couldn't stomach Three Extremes - not my kind of film. But I think I understand why so many liked it.

Obviously, you saw a different film. The film OLDBOY I have owned 3 times over is not what you described.
Mayhap you got a hold of some low-fi gay porn?

Despite the less-than-stellar transfer, I can't wait to get my hands on this...amazing flick.
