Thumbs up 'Crank' - High-Def Digest Review

'Crank' is currently Amazon's top-selling Blu-ray disc, and after reading Peter's just-posted review, I understand why... The disc boasts a 4.5 star video transfer paired with a 5 star soundtrack, plus some solid extras and even an high-def exclusive video commentary track.

The Standard-Definition DVD had the PiP Video Commentary too, so it wouldn't be a HD bonus content, just another supplemental.

I saw on Blu-Ray.com that this was one of the best Blu-Ray's currently available. I went by Bestbuy today and did not have it there. There is another store that has it and I planned to add it to my collection.

The other Bestbuy store had about 4 or 5 copies - while the one close to my work had none.

More important, this Bestbuy had "Open Season" and I watching it after 24 tonight.

Very enjoyable film.

Peter's review is spot on, but I feel giving it 4.5/5 because of "edge enhancement" is a little unfair - the enhancement is most likely in the master print and so will of course be in the Blu-Ray transfer, thus it is not a fault of the Blu-Ray transfer and it should not be marked down because of this. 5/5 is the only fair option for this disc unless it can be confirmed that the enhancement was added during the transfer to Blu-Ray.

Either way, one of the best looking Blu-Ray discs out there.

Mark

While the story was...meh....the experience was KICK ASS. This is the best time you'll have watching a Blu-Ray. Youve never seen anything like this. Im glad the 2 directors (former camera operators, I believe) took such chances with this movie. I would say this was the best action movie of the year...and I dont think it's possible to argue against it.

It's a shame this isn't coming out on HD DVD. Looks like a must have title on BD if you like your action movies!

I just saw the Blu-Ray of this movie. The quality and experence was quite nice. Only DTS would have made it better.

But the store was quite strange movie for my taste. But image quality was pretty much 2nd to none.

IMO this movie looks better than the ones that did get 5 stars for PQ, best I've seen so far in fact. It gets a definate 5 star for video in my book.

Most likely they are going to re-issue it using Profile 1.1 PiP
