Default 'Close Encounters' - High-Def Digest review

It looks like 'Close Encounters of The Third Kind' is the landmark Spielberg release Blu-ray fans have craving. In his just-posted review, Peter says he's never seen the film look or sound better than it does in its next-gen debut, and the extras are a great mix of both new and old.

It's nice that Sony put in a DTS-HD MA track, and none of their players can decode it yet!! Come on with the PS3 DTS-HD MA firmware update already!!

BTW, you are the #1 reviewer of HDM, no question. Great format!!

I already own this classic on two formats, so it looks like the third time's a charm. I can't wait.

While the packaging does sound interesting, I really wish they would at least include a standard case and insert inside for those of us that like our discs neat and easily organized...

Not that it takes away too much from the disc, but I have been spoiled by Blu-ray's near total consistency in this regard up until now. I dread the day that every movie is released in special gimmick packaging that is cool upon first look but a nightmare to display as a collection. This happened to DVD for a number of years, and seems to have been toned down recently...

'Close Encounters' is now regarded as a genuine epic as influential, awe-inspiring and revolutionary as 'Metropolis,' '2001: A Space Odyssey' and 'Blade Runner.'
Only in America. This film is nowhere on the same level as 2001 or Blade Runner. Blasphemy!

Looks like Peter's getting soft of late. He used to do A-B comparisons of lossless tracks (i.e. Dolby TrueHD vs. LPCM on The Departed) and now he just kind of generalizes the audio reviews. While I'm sure both the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA sounded phenominal on this flick, I would like to know what his thoughts were when directly comparing the two.

Sony must have cut a VERY pricey deal with spielberg to aprove this disk on blu-ray. He must be getting a HUGE piece for them to be chargeing $49.95 msrp.

I Definitly want this movie but i can't justify the price. I'll have to look out for this title going on sale.

Wow peter can't catch a break. People bitching they have to wait a few days for reviews to hit and now he's not spending enough time on each one!

Man as a current HD-DVD supporter, this one makes me itch for a BluRay player....bad.

I can pass on the recent "cartoons", gimme Spielberg classics like this.

I love this movie, glad to see it's following the latest trend, but dude why have that avatar? May is the worst film in the history of cinema!
