Default 'Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God...Be Back by Five' -- pre-release buzz

I pride myself on knowing most obscure flicks, but I have never even heard of this one:

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/wenttoconeyisland.html

It's a little-seen 1998 flick with Jon Cryer, and supposedly based on a true story.

No specs yet, but Starz will release the film on January 15, 2008.

Retail is $24.98...

weird. you'd think Starz would release a better known title. What can they possibly be thinking?

maybe they want to make a splash by releasing the longest titled hidef movie to date?

They're releasing the Gerard Butler Beowulf and Grendel, and having seen that HORRIBLE pile of shit, and knowing Starz/Anchor Bay's policy (30 versions of all titles, rush that shit out), They're thinking one thing: potential $

For a movie that supposedly had great reviews, I've never even heard of it.

Anyone even seen this?

well what studio owns the movie "don't be a menace in south central while drinking your juice in the hood" or "everything you wanted to know about sex but were too afraid to ask"... they'll trump the starz long title in the igh def realm.

I'm not surprised if this turn out not to be a bestseller.

I saw that Beowulf too, awful awful film. It looks like a really bad Uwe Boll film, but doesnt even have the so bad is funny aspect Bolls films have, this is just dreadful. After 40 minutes I just forwarded the movie on x12 speed to get to the end but be able to stop and not miss any action if there was any (I didnt stop)

I loved Beowulf and Grendel, but I suppose everyone has their own movie preferences.

Starz/Anchor Bay has a wealth of excellent films. Why they want to release exactly this Turkey above all is beyond me. With movies like this there is absolutely no way for blu-ray to prevail.

In fairness both sides have their turkeys, Sony with I Know Who Killed Me, why release this, if if flopped big time theatrically it will probably do 10 copies on Blu Ray. While HD DVD dont I think have an outright stinker like this on their release slate there are a few 'why bother' releases like Mobsters for example.

But to release not only a flop but such an obscure movie, defys logic, how can they make money? I've read here that its something like $50k to sent up a title for release, I checked this on Yahoo it made $15,970 at the US Box Office

Lindsay Lohan paid off Sony's drugged cronies with her cache of hidden cocaine.

I am happy they are releasing this. I have it on pre-order. So one of the ten copies is already sold.
