Default 'Sopranos: Season Six, Pt 2' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'The Sopranos: Season Six, Part Two.' He says this Blu-ray boasts a gorgeous video transfer and a robust TrueHD audio mix, but at a wallet-deflating suggested retail price of $129.95 for just eight episodes, he recommends giving this one a spin at the rental counter.

2.5 Stars for the Series?! You gotta be freakin'kidding me!

The last part of Season 6 was great! And the ending was what the viewers deserved Loved it!

Is there any word about the complete 6th Season or a complete Sopranos Box in Hi-Def?

That would cost like $500+

Yeah, seriously, if Kenneth gave the overall season 2.5 stars, this is obviously the only TV show he's ever seen.
Just because he throws a hissy fit over the last couple of episodes doesn't mean the whole thing is bad. I thought the season (or half season) premiere was one of the best episodes in the series...Though nothing can beat "Pine Barrens".

By the way, there are 9 episodes on this, jed.

I agree this set is way overpriced, but that review is a little harsh. The last 9 episodes were amazing, IMO. And they looked great in HD.

This is my second review of the day (first was on the Polar Express) and I have to STRONGLY agree with Lucifuge above and not "Kenneth". I do not know how Ancient the people are who write these reviews, but the Sopranos Season 6 Part II is an absolute MUST HAVE for ALL Sopranos fans and I would have graded it "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED". How could a rational Sopranos fan ever say "Give It A Rent" to any of seasons. Heck, it is only the FINAL chapter in one of (if not the most) popular shows in Television history. But "Kenneth" only says "give it a rent" but does not even "recommend it". Hater in the House. If Hi-Def Digest needs any younger (I'm 28) and cooler writers, send me an email.

I didn't rate this season highly either and I'm not buying it until they offer it complete and for a lower price than they're currently asking for half the season.

Exclamation Wasn't The Best Ever, but......

I fully admit that I was a little disappointed with the end of the Sopranos, but I still find it strange to rate it as a "give it a rent". If you look at the other movies given the same description, you will laugh. How could someone not at least "Recommend" viewing the final chapter of many peoples favorite show EVER (How many Emmy's won!!!). My complaints might seem strong for this particular review, but if you look at the the reviews on many of YOUR favorite Blu-Rays, you may agree with me. Maybe not.

The 'logic' behind Kenneth's reviews can be a little hard to understand. The Sopranos get 2.5 stars while Kung Fu Hustle gets the full 5??!!! Perhaps he could share his cigarettes.

That's cute -- I'm 29.

For the record, I adore other seasons of 'The Sopranos.' It's one of my favorite shows. I was just disappointed in the direction of the last nine episodes and the climax of the series in general (note that I gave the first part of season six 4.5 stars). To be fair, I added a paragraph in my review to note that many others love the final episodes (I even provided a theory as to why I may have felt the way I did).

If not for the high price, I would have taken this release's "Bottom Line" a step higher to "Worth A Look" -- unfortunately, $130 for nine episodes is really high (that's nearly $15 per episode -- you could get a subscription to HBO for a year for that kind of money). I think most people should rent it and verify they enjoyed the ending before dumping serious cash on the release. Believe me, it has nothing to do with the series as a whole.

Hope that clarifies. Thanks for posting!

Cool Kung Fu Hustle vs. (We Are Marshall OR Sopranos Season Season 6 Part II)

I appreciate your ever so pleasant reply message you wrote. Though I do not think it rationalizes a 2.5 rating for the storyline at all, I wouldn't pay $130 either. Anyone can go on eBay and get it for $75 to the door. Also, I do not know if you have read the section regarding your "overall" review criteria, but it says absolutely nothing about a "recommended review" pertaining to actually purchasing the movie. So, when you say "give it a rent", I take it as you would barely even recommend it. Next, I will leave with this amazing question (this is a YES or NO ONLY QUESTION): Can you say (or write) with a straight face that Kung Fu Hustle is in any way better than Soprano's Season Six Part II or We Are Marshall, as your site attests? This is so obvious that it's almost rhetorical. You sure you are not a thirty-something in denial?

Thats stupid. You can't compare Kung Fu Hustle with the Sopranos. They're way too different, and saying one is better almost makes no sense.
Thats like saying "What movie is better, The English Patient or Star Wars?"
Or "hey, what do you like better, Good Fellas or Dumb and Dumber?"

Perhaps you should consider adding a "Value" category in the reviews. I don't think price should come into play with the review system as it is now.

Sorry to use more than one word, but here it is:

"Yes! Without hesitation!"

If I'm directly choosing between 'Sopranos 6.2' (and not the series as a whole) and a genre-bending, kung fu hybrid, foreign gutbuster like 'Kung Fu Hustle,' then with a straight face, I'd rather watch 'Kung Fu Hustle' (and a ton of other flicks -- none of which would be 'We Are Marshall,' just personal tastes and all). Although I agree with other posters -- it's a stretch to compare the two in terms of content and genre.

I'm off to watch 'Shaolin Soccer.'

Thanks for posting!
