Default Fox Plans Profile 1.1 'Sunshine' Blu-ray

just posted:

Quote:
Fox Home Entertainment revealed Monday that it will issue its first Profile 1.1 title in early 2008, a feature-packed Blu-ray release of 'Sunshine.'

Although the studio has yet to set an official street date for the title, it's promising a Q1 release for the Danny Boyle ('28 Days Later,' 'Trainspotting') ensemble thriller.

As Fox's first announced Profile 1.1 title, 'Sunshine' seems poised to be most technologically advanced Blu-ray release yet. Not only will the disc feature a dual-stream picture-in-picture commentary (which the studio is dubbing "enhanced viewing mode"), but it will also include a first-ever "surround sound mixing feature."

Note that these two features will only be accessible via Profile 1.1 compliant players, but Fox says the disc itself (and all other supplements) will be compatible with all Blu-ray players.

Other planned features include multiple audio commentaries, a video diary, featurettes, a subtitle fact track, a searchable content index, and a D-Box enhanced audio track.

Tech specs include a 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 transfer, plus DTS-HD Master Audio. The studio has set a list price of $39.98.

Will this version be the same as the PAL version released in Europe soon? If so, Awesome!

I may one day go with both formats again, but at the moment blu-ray is a mess with its incompatibility issues with different profiles...the format should have been completed before releasing, it's nearly 2 years old and its still not sorted out....I'll probably end up getting a dual format player in about 2 years when prices have dropped and for the time being stay with HD-DVD.

isn't this a blu-ray specific forum, not a smackdown?

I am really looking forward to this release. Danny Boyle is one of my favorite directors.

So is it safe to assume the 1.1 update to the PS3 will be released before this comes out? If so, I'll probably pick this up just to see how it all works out.

I haven't listened to any FUD. I follow PS3 news fairly closely, but haven't heard of a timeframe when they're going to update the PS3. If I had listened to the FUD, I'd be saying "how can they list the PS3 because it clearly cant do secondary video decoding", which I KNOW isn't true.

It's not exactly a shocker that Sony doesn't talk terribly much about future updates. Supposedly firmware 2.00 is hitting soon, and other than Wake-on-LAN support, nobody really knows much about it.

I wonder why Fox is putting so much effort into this one? It got a decent Rotten Tomatos score, but it never even made it to wide release in the US. I guess if you're going to test the waters with unproven technology, you don't want to do it with your hits?

Thist movie started so great, first half is very good, and then turned into a silly monster-flick

Simple, if they fuck it up they wont get as many complaints, like WB doing the burn in PiP with T3. This is actually a good film until the last 20 minutes or so when it absolutely falls to pieces which was a shame.

I was thinking of getting it if it has the PiP. Granted no players can do it yet but does the title list it as a special feature?

Is the PS3 compatable with it?
