Default 'The Guardian' - High-Def Digest Review

A strong transer and an even stronger soudtrack highlight Peter's otherwise lackluster review of the Kevin Costner/Ashton Kutcher flick 'The Guardian' on Blu-ray.

Audio-wise, he says that this release's action-oriented sequences rank alongside the best next-gen soundtracks he's heard...

I was a bit harsher on the film but LOVED the audio. My new demo disc possibly. My review is here:

I didn't really want to see this movie in the theater, but my wife dragged me to it (for some reason she likes Ashton Kutcher). Anyway, I was surprised to find I actually did like it quite a bit ... it's certainly not great filmmaking by any stretch of the imagination, but for a garden-variety "feel good" action pic, it's not bad. Picked up the Blu-Ray disc yesterday, but haven't checked it out yet.

My PS3 says this is an AVC encode...not Mpeg-2.

I was not sure about this movie at first. But I enjoy the picture - it look very good and the sound was amazing.

I thought it was interesting with what the Coast Guard trainees had to go though - not sure if was that realistic but still enjoyable movie.

One thing I wish is that it DTS ES 6.1 and higher encoding - but I wish that for everything.

Although I didn't find anything entirely original about this film, it didn't stop me from really enjoying it.

However, Buena Vista did drop the ball on the Blu-ray release in a major way.
On the back of the SD case, one of the special features listed is an "all new alternate ending"....

On the back of the Blu-ray, it lists a major spoiler about the alternate ending that ruins the original ending if you purchase the disc before having seen the film.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

Yeah, to clarify, this title is encoded with AVC/H.264 & a woppin' 6.9Mbps LPCM audio transfer.

A little rough around the edges, but overall this disc is excellent in the PQ & AQ. It should be for a 2006 release.

I thought I was the only one who hated seeing that there.. all they had to freakin say was that there was an alternate ending, why oh why did they SPOIL THE DAMN MOVIE?

And the numbskull reviewing this BD for HDD called this BD an MPEG-2 encode. It's AVC for Christ's sake. Good looking AVC at that.
