Default 'Hostel Part II' - High-Def Digest review

Peter's review of 'Hostel Part II' is up. He says this Blu-ray release is a mixed bag. He was underwhelmed by the video (giving it only two stars), but he says both the audio and supplements package are excellent.

Default What?!!

First off, I think Blake is a great HD reviewer and I look forward to his reviews of the HD quality and the film's themselves.

I can't believe he gave Hostel Part II only two stars for video. I think it's terrific, just as good as Hostel.

I'm really shocked. My only concern is that I do know that Part II took a bit longer to get to most critics so maybe he got an early disc and the problems he had were fixed by the time I got mine. Weird.

Then again, maybe he's got a better HD TV then me? I have a Sony 42" Plasma 1080i not 1080p. Seems odd that 1080p would make that much of a difference though.

I agree. Hostel Part II transfer for both the DVD and the Blu Ray are a bit darker than they should be, but with thast aside, the transfer is great and defintily matched pretty close to what I saw in theaters.

No there is no much of a dirrerence. I tried 46" 1080i and upgraded to 46" 1080P (both bravia), I can't notice that diffrence that affect a rating of PQ. I didn't suprised by the rivew though cause most people hated this movie. I think I'll give it a try

Maybe the reason you cant tell a difference between 1080i and 1080p is because the size of your tv. I was told that 1080p was meant for tvs 55'' or more. I have a 60'' and I can tell you...the image is just gorgeous. Like a painting in motion. Distance from your tv might also be a factor. Just my 2 cents.

offtopic: i've got 40" Samsung 1080i LCD, and planing to buy 50" Pioneer Kuro 1080p Plasma.
the question is should i buy it, or on 50" i may not see the difference and buy 50" Pioneer Kuro HD Ready?
I always thought that there should be difference on 50" already.

sucks that yet another Bluray Horror title gets a low PQ score..at least the first one scored pretty well.

You should learn the name of the reviewer before you comment on his reviews.

I ordered Hostel 1 & 2 on Amazon without thinking twice and knowing that part 2 couldn't be as good as part 1. All I wanted was good video.

How the HELL does it only get 2 stars in video?

Well I guess after I receive the movies and watch them I'll judge for myself.

It's really not a 2 star movie (imo). It's just really dark. There is some black crushing but I wouldn't knock off 3 stars for that.

I can't believe that he gave Hostel II only 2 stars and 28 Days Later 1 1/2. 28 Days Later looks like it was shot in 1950 on reel to reel. I agree that it was dark but it was in no way only 1/2 a star better than 28 Days Later.

This movie looks like hell. I watched 1 and 2 back to back and I thought something was wrong with my blu-ray when I was watching part 2. The dark colours would bleed into each other in the darker scenes. Thouroughly unimpressed.
I bought them both so I could show my friends what blu-ray could do but I damn sure won't be showing them Hostel 2...looks like hell.
