Default 'Meet the Robinsons' - High-Def Digest review

Kenneth's review of 'Meet the Robinsons' is up. He enjoyed the film itself and says this is a very strong Blu-ray release, delivering a beautiful transfer, an impressive PCM audio mix, all of the supplements from the standard DVD, and some exclusive HD bonuses as well.

Scenes that take place in the present are filtered with a sepia-toned haze that's designed to artificially imbue the picture with a filmic quality.

I don't think you need excuses, the reviewer clearly states that the transfer is perfect, but he disagrees with the style the filmmakers chose to present certain scenes.

Just to clarify -- I don't disagree with the style the filmmakers choose to use in 'Meet the Robinsons.' I simply wanted to make it clear that in a side by side comparison to other CG animation transfers, 'Meet the Robinsons' is occasionally a bit soft.

Those who only care about the director's intent will likely be annoyed by the half star difference, but buyers wondering why 'Meet the Robinsons' isn't as crisp as other CG animation on Blu-ray or HD DVD will have an answer as well as a comparitive index amongst other titles on the market.

Hope that helps! Thanks as always for posting!

I just got to watch this movie last night, and all I can say is WOW. I loved the art direction and style, the originality, the story and the characters. At first I though, wow, this really is a kids movie, but as time went on I was further and further drawn in.

The quality of this blu-ray is just superb, one of the best animated movies on hd disc that I have seen, and as for the 5.1 PCM, that's another WOW. This really shows off Blu-ray disc picture and sound! This is truly a demo disc, this soundtrack kicks with all of it's separation. I only wish Transformers sounded like this one. I watched it with my 7 year old nephew and he didn't move once during the film, unusual for him not to get restless at least once. Highly recommend this one myself, thanks for the review, I agreed with it.

Hi Ken. Sorry to nitpick about your review, but Meet the Robinsons was executive produced by John Lasseter, and his involvement with the film and its director, Steve Anderson, made great improvements to the story. John Lasseter and Ed Catmull met with all Walt Disney Animation Studios staff and reviewed all ongoing projects, including Steve Anderson's project, Meet the Robinsons. After hearing about Steve's own personal story of being adopted, John realized that the movie was not nearly as compelling as Steve's own adoption story. So, John gave him a handful of notes on possible changes to the movie, as well as the directive to make it more personal and tell Steve's own story. So, while it was not a Pixar made film, I think John's involvement and a touch of Pixar magic ("make it your own personal story") really saved what probably would have been another mediocre WDAS film.

As for the technical aspects, I think your review was pretty much spot on.

I for one have to whole-heartedly disagree with the 1/2 star difference. The transfer is perfect, just as a digitial-to-digital transfer should be. That is what you should be making a judgment on. Your personal feelings on the style choices are fine to point out, but I don't think they should affect the rating.

Just finished watching this and it looked absolutly fantastic. I would give the picture quality 5 out 5 stars. Something that really surprised me is that there was absolutly no colour banding at all despite the amount of sky you see i nthe movie.

Just watched this, and while audio/video was fantastic, the movie itself was disappointing. The story just didn't hold for me, not saying it's a bad movie, just didn't like it personally. It seemed all over the place, didn't really let me get to know who these people were (there were a lot of them).
