lol... yeah, I know it's not the greatest way to do it, and The Mummy is just about as bad as that scene from Jaws, it's just one of those things I have come to accept and almost like now as a form of camp or a signature on a movie. :P

and having watched halloween that way for the past 30 years, I am a creature of habit and am not a big fan of the THX transfer. Which is why I've held on to my 3 disc limited edition for all of these years. The increase in detail is excellent on the THX transfer (especially the blu-ray), but I definitely prefer the way it's looked to me since I first saw it on VHS in the early 80s.

The blue color timing of the entire movie is mostly based on the fact that they shot many of the night scenes during the day with the blue filter.

Black Christmas had it's night scenes shot at night, and I would argue there is an apparent difference in the visual level of detail between the two (blue hue aside).
I would be very, VERY surprised if this were true. Day for night scenes stand out immediately. It looks fake as hell in even biggest budget films. HIGHLY unlikely John Carpenter was able to achieve a perfect day for night for a large part of this film on a $200,000 budget!

The most laughably obvious day for night scene I've ever seen is the night surfing in Point Break. I don't know how anyone could possibly mistake that for actually being shot at night.

Im the same ....some of these movies carry great nostalgic moments from my childhood in the 70s and 80s and to see them look so pristine at times affects my viewing experience and makes me doubt my memories lol.

I have just worked on the Blu Ray of Black Christmas, and whilst i knew it would never look like Iron Man PQ wise, the finished movie turned out so well. Lots of added detail, lots of film grain now visible etc etc.... it still looks like the old 70s movie i grew up with..which pleases me of course....

moving on:-
Some really good examples of creative filters and lighting that are used for mood can be seen in many Michael Mann films as im sure you know already..... im thinking of MANHUNTER in particular. It will be interesting to see how the look of the movie carries over to Blu Ray and whether the colour timing gets interfered with. (that blue scene with GRAHAM AND MOLLY in bed at night really sticks in my mind)

I'm confused, I now a version of the original Halloween was out and Peter Brack or Ken Brown slashed it to pieces over its color transfer. Is this the one that looked so good on all the screens from the 1st page. I'm not talking about the ones that look like a smurf painted over them, but the ones after that. Did a new version come out or is this the one that got such bad reviews?

There's only one version of the 1978 halloween on blu ray. It got bad reviews based on color timing issues, mostly because they weren't approved by anyone involved in making the movie. But those screenshots earlier in this topic are of that blu ray (this is an old topic, i just happened to have bumped it)
