Default 'Troy: Director's Cut' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Peter's review of 'Troy: Director's Cut.' He says this Blu-ray debut of the Wolfgang Petersen film is quite strong, boasting 4.5 stars (out of 5) for both audio and video.

I knew I shouldn't have bought Troy on HD DVD back in June

o well... I'll give this a rent first and then decide whether or not I should double dip this.

To be honest, I wish I had the regular cut on Blu. The extended scenes and violence add little, if not taking away from the movie.

I haven't made it to the extras yet, so hopefully there is a theatrical cut. On a positive note, the transfers are great. It's a must buy if you liked Troy.

I would've liked a choice for a theatrical cut on Blu as well. I don't mind the director's cut as it's always interesting to see the director's "vision". It'd be nice if they did these like the Alien set from a few years ago did and have both versions available on the disc.

I loved it I think they should stop cutting these movies up and let the director put it out the way they want too thats what the movie was missing I always thought they had watered down the violence now I can truly say its up there not over gladiator or braveheart but up there

This ruled.
I seriosuly enjoyed the DC MUCH better than the TC.
Even if just for extra violence and gore (the added blood & guts IS noticeable) and the 'recomposition' and 'reframing' *ahem* of the scenes with Diane, and the extended (4 secs. to 21 seconds!) 'backside' shot!

I enjoyned the DC of Troy but, some things were changed for no reason at all, like the music cues, with Achilles' theme at the beach attack. I Really liked the way the music was edited in the original but now its not as good, some other things as well were changed just for the sake of it. However the PQ is exellent, very vibrant colours.

In the review of troy it say that both hd dvd and blu-ray have a dolby digital track at 640 kps. I dont know for the hd dvd but for the blu-ray this is not true. I don't have a hook up to hear the pcm, but the dolby is at a dvd qualiy of 448kps. My next big puchase is going to be one of the new recievers to hear that uncompressed audio. I can't wait.

Uncompressed audio is the stuff man. I had an Onkyo Receiver with 6.1 surround (also Onkyo Speakers) and about 6 months back, I upgraded up receiver to the Denon 2807 and even with my current speakers, the sound changed from day to night. Then mix in the fact that I am able to do PCM, things just sound AMAZINNGGGG, compared to any DTS and and Dolby 5.1
