Default 'Black Book' - High-Def Digest review

Kenneth's review of 'Black Book' is up. Although had mixed feelings about the film itself, he says a five-star video transfer and a lush high-end audio track make this Blu-ray release worth a look.

Yes, it's great movie that I've seen twice already.

Does anyone know if Sony's disc is region-coded?

Alternatively, does anyone know if Tartan's UK edition uses the same encode as Sony's?

I liked the movie a lot, and so did most of the world! The movie rates 8.1/10 on IMDB, so just take Kenneth's movie rating with a grain of salt...

Here's a Rotten Tomatoes link for more on the critical reception of the film itself.

I am not criticizing you in any way, I am only saying that most people will probably like it more than you did. I like that you didn't let your slight dislike of the movie affect the PQ/AQ score...

No offense taken -- I just wanted to toss the Rotten Tomatoes link in so people could look at the collective reception of the film (it scored in the mid 70s on the Tomatometer which places it much higher than my score).

This is one of those reviews where I knew I liked the film less than most people out there!

Thanks as always for posting

I liked the film a lot. I took on board some of the criticisms of the negative reviews, but I just found it a really enjoyable blockbuster with, perhaps, too much gratuitous nudity where the female lead was concerned - which is ultimately another selling point for many, no?

Default Demo Material

Great Movie. The PQ is demo material. The color and the detail in one word 'WOW'

PQ: 4.5+
AQ:4.5

AVC:Average 26 Mbps

We complain no good movie's or bad transfers. This is a great buy!

It has a PS3 icon when you enter the disc on the PS3.

First of all, it was sold out at both my local Fry's(Burbank) AND Best Buy(West Hollywood). It seems Fry's only received 5 copies. I'm sure it was the same with Best Buy. Sony seems to have underestimated this films's potential in the high def home video world just as badly as they underestimated its theatrical potential. I finally remembered that Amoeba Records had started carrying HDM and picked up a copy though.

This is easily the best film Verhoeven has ever done, and I am a huge Robocop AND Starship Troopers fan. I can't believe it got such a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a BD player and doesn't mind some nudity and sexual activity in their movies.

Oh yeah, and Ang Lee's new film called "Lust, Caution" seems like it's going to have a strikingly similar premise.

The PQ really is amongst the best I've seen. Some films make the transition from SD to HD seem unnecessary, but this isn't one of them.
