Peter's review of 'Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds: Live at Radio City' is up, and he says this Blu-ray release from Sony BMG "a must-buy" for Matthews fans and anyone else looking for demo-worthy high-def material. Boasting five-star ratings for both video and audio, the only thing that drags the overall grade is a relatively slim number of included supplements.

I wonder why Sony didn't put this on one disc - sounds like the documentary would have fit on disc one (a BD-50). I guess it is probably to be consistent with the authoring of the 2 x DVD set, rather than a marketing type effort to say that even Blu-ray's current max 50GB per disc is not enough for some films...

Why does this release score zero for hidef extras despite having a disc of err... extras in hidef?

the Ps3 Can't and will NEVER be able to do so since it utilise a HDMI 1.3 'Lite' transmitter witch can't do that ever. What you want to do, it, put the HDMI Audio output in PCM sound when you watch a TrueHD track, if you have FW1.9, you can do so by pressing the Triangle(While starting to watch the disc), go to the A/V setting, and switch the output to PCM, then Press SELECT and you'll see that the pS3 is decoding THD signal with the Bitrate and all.. Btw those CAPS aren't for you, but general in the forum I witch sony would put 2 setting in the HDMI audio like : DD, DTS = Bitstream/PCM and TrueHD, DTS HD = CORE/PCM (SInce it will never output Bitstream, put Core, to play the extracted core in those track, it doesn't support DTS HD, but it may come one day) |

The second disc of extras is also included on the concurrently-released DVD edition. Although the content of that extra disc is indeed presented in high-def, "High-Def Exclusives" refers to additional content that's exclusive to the high-def release (and can't be found on a standard release)

I'll be seeing Dave tomorrow at the "Concert for Virginia Tech" that he, John Mayer, Phill Vassar, and NAS will performing for free in honor of the tragedy that happened.
I'm sure the Blu-ray will be better, though this won't be bad!

5 star picture quality? No artifacts?
This is not a 5 star picture quality, color and detail and very nice, there is artifacting in the background shots. I'm being very picky, but when I see 5 star I think the best, this is definately not the best. You also can't review disc's based on the history of Live music disc's being bad. As a comparison to other live disc's it's obviously much better, but 5 stars? Based on what? Confused by this video review.

Do you own the disk or are you making judgement based on a web video?

All I can say is WOW. WOW!
Great disc, the video is great, the audio is amazing. Lie In Our Graves is one of the best performed tracks on here, especially the bridge. |

By far one of the best purchases I have ever made on either format!
I popped in this disc with extremely high expectations after reading the review here on HDD, and not only was I not disappointed, I was blown away! The video is perfect, crystal clear. But what shines here is the music. I turned the TrueHD track on and...I don't have words for it. I have never heard music this crystal clear in my life! If you shut your eyes, you could easily believe that you are there in the room with those guitars. This is absolutely a must-buy, even if you are not a huge Dave Matthews fan. This is my new reference standard for showing off my system, and I would have supported this just to support Sony producing more discs just like it. Throw in the fact that I am a big Dave Matthews fan, and we have a recipe for a perfect disc. ![]() |
