Default 'Final Fantasy' - High-Def Digest review

Peter's review of 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within' on Blu-ray is up. Like most, he didn't love the film itself, but as a Blu-ray release, this one doesn't disappoint, delivering a five-star video transfer, an almost-as-good audio package and hours upon hours of supplements.

I agree about the movie being terrible.. It was.

But I do plan on buying it, just because ^_-

As long as it looks good, thats okay with me! Five stars of video, such a shame the movie was horrible.

Hopefully I can find it on Tuesday.. I have a feeling this will be a rare blu ray.. Like the Enron movie

Advent Children is every bit as hollow as Spirits Within, but it does provide a more immersive world (although unused and wasted), and is more visually entertaining than Spirits Within. So I hope to see that Director's Cut or Complete Cut released on Blu Ray in the near future.

I despise Spirits Within >.>

I absolutely agree. I'm one of the few who went to the theater just for this flick and walked out thinking it was great fraking movie! I can't wait to own it!

If you take off the FF name it is a good movie but dont base it on the game.

Well what can I say. I cared about the characters.
The setting, the story, the sound and the effects - all combine to a pretty cool movie. What the hell was everyone else watching??

"the technology has undergone such huge advancements that 'Final Fantasy' now seems almost obsolete"
like to see the reviewer make something that comes even close to looking like the detail achieved by Square in their graphics - over 6 years later!

"nothing about the characters or themes in 'The Spirits Within' has any resonance"
... spiritual energy that kills .... gaia theory ... bioetheric energy ...
yep.. this film didn't have the resonance of a superior film like Spiderman or The Incredible Hulk!

I beginning to think it's time to move on from high-def digest - i prefer reviewers with taste :P

the only real question is:

Does it include the "Thriller" Dance sequence?

Because everyone was hoping for something distinctly Final Fantasy or a least a movie version of FFIV, VI or VII. Myself I would've loved a CGI version of VI.

I bought the dvd when it was first released. Saw it once. Never saw it again but I still own the disc. For it's time, I thought the CGI was something special to see so that is why I bought it in the first place. Now...the question I am asking myself: do I buy this flick again? This is a hard one. I am not a fan of the whole final fantasy hoopla. But I did admire how it looked and I did not think the movie was that bad. Hmmmmm.
