Default 'Covenant' -- High-Def Digest review

Our first review of 2007, and it is...

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/covenant.html

What an inauspicous start. But if the movie is hilarious, the disc is terrific -- fabulous transfer and soundtrack that rival the best I've seen on Blu-ray. At least worth a rent, just as demo material.

Great way to kick off the New Year for Blu Ray fans. It looks like mpeg2 still has some tricks up its sleeve.

Great review, sounds like it should be a fun movie to watch. This is the first Blu-Ray review that makes we wish I had a dual HD format player. Guess for now I have to see how the SD DVD via Netflix looks upconverted on my XA1. Fingers crossed; I'm rarely impressed by Sony DVD's.

I know this thread is about the Blu-Ray, High Def version of this "movie"; I humbly request my 3 second "rant". First, this film is unwatchable, like a bad music video. Shots of buffed guys & gals thrown in with no relevence to the plot. I Netflixed the SD DVD as I have no interest in having a Blu-Ray player to add to my XA1. I knew I was in trouble when the main menu made me chose between a Full Screen or Wide Screen Version. Instead of producing 2 different disc versions - like most other studios - Sony chose to squeeze both version on one disc. The result is the worst upconversion on my 57" Sony RP HDTV I've seen in a long time.

I'm happy for Blu-Ray owners Sony apparently did a decent HiDef version. And I'm very happy with my Sony hardware (HDTV & A/V receiver). But the SD version is why I avoid Sony software like the plague.

This is one of the few Blu-ray exclusives that I would've bought before watching were it on HD DVD.

Since I know it won't be on HD DVD, I downloaded it and watched this weekend. Honestly, now that i've seen it i'm kinda glad it wasn't on HD DVD. It was worth a watch but not worth buying.

I bought this based on Peter's 5 star rating. Man, was I duped. Giving this piece of crap the same PQ rating as Hulk is insane. What a terrible looking movie (or transfer - not sure which).

Totally soft, no detail. Even if this was the SD version I would not be impressed. Sheesh.

Agreed, I rented the movie as well on DVD and didn't think much of it. The PQ in HD would probably be better, but still doesn't change my feelings about how bad the movie was.
