Such a frustrating movie. Marion did a good job, and the effects were convincing, but the other main character...you just kind of want him dead, he's such a jerk. And he takes up more screen time than anyone else, so...yeah.

But he's supposed to be a jerk. The main driving force of the movie is will he change with the influence of this woman and his kid.

Indeed. I truly loved the movie. I hope a lot of American movie fans will blind buy this. It's one of 2012's best movies.

    Spoiler:
He went from playing with his kid on the beach at the beginning of the film-->neglecting him/leaving him with his aunt to take care of-->shaking him and telling him he hated him-->completely abandoning him by moving away with no notice. At the end of the film, he has 1 day with the kid where he goes to play with him and then saves his life after the kid fell through the ice, but I don't see this as him becoming a better father or better person at all. Any parent, even a crappy one, would try to save their kid's life in that situation. He's a jerk for pretty much the entire film, and I never saw any kind of character arc with him. Marion's character was much more interesting and is the main attraction of the film IMO.
