Hurray! Let's hope they put all 270-something episodes out.

Man, I'm loathe to get the DBZ series, but to support BD and anime on it, I might have to get it.

I'll wait to see pricing first. All anime companies gouge almost as much as the porn industry does.

I want anime on BD so bad I will double dip on this one. We have to pave the way for other anime studios to go HD, but on Blu.

Shitty FUNImation remastering job...no.
They already messed up the dvds by cropping them and leaving all the tear and dirt on the picture. Remastered, yeah... Ghost in the Shell on Blu Ray, now thats a damn well Blu-ray Disc. I rather wait till ADV chooses Blu-ray! Evangelion in High Def.....

DBZ is one series that is completely pointless to buy in HD. They aren't going to do a full expensive remaster, so it won't look any better, and as for widescreen, ALL the DBZ theatrical movies were shot in 4:3, they added black bars to the picture for the theaters in Japan. So you're actually losing picture. The versions we have on DVD already from funimation are superior because they are fullscreen. The only advantage I can think of is the macroblocking might be eliminated, but still, that isn't worth 29.99 for two old ass movies.

I'm a purist, so I won't buy ANY anime in HD that wasn't in a widescreen aspect ratio to begin with, you're just re-buying 4:3 shows that will be cropped and have the mpeg compression artifacts eliminated. Most of the shows had low budgets cause they were on TV anyways, Evangelion? That show would be pointless in high definition, they couldn't even do the last couple episodes right because the studio ran out of money.

And judging by the cropping job funimation did on their new DBZ series season boxsets, they don't do a good job. (I own them anyway because I never paid the 20 dollars per 3 episode disc price gouging before).

Basically all 4:3 older anime is completely pointless to release in HD, but they'll do it anyways to cash in on the nerds.

And they put the first 2 broly movies, but not the third? Those movies are barely 40 minutes each, cheap not to put all 3 esp since a BD-50 could hold more than that. You can buy a boxed set with all 3 broly films in HD for 14 dollars from walmart anyway.

BTW I just picked up "Freedom Vol. 1", now THAT is how you do anime in HD, it's just too bad genon is using the japanese MSRP for america as well (39 dollars per episode).

w0w, first time I have heard another purist speak. I usually get flamed when I say stuff like this! Specially about the widescreen, which everyone says makes the anime seem more dramatic...And yes, Freedom Vol.1 Is simply Beautiful in HD! You should check out the Ghost In The Shell, the audio is simply stunning!

hehe. well some people just don't understand about aspect ratios, they think 4:3 anime magically becomes widescreen in HD and everything is perfect.

I'm excited about the older theatrical films like akira, patlabor, wings of honneamise and any new shows that are native widescreen (Area 88 OVA, Galaxy Railroad etc.).

DVD is still the peak of perfection for 95% of the anime out there, I'd rather pay less and get more over a slick HD release with a cropped picture.

Yeah Freedom is really cool, but I see volume 2 doesn't even have a release yet, I know they're releasing the japanese versions worldwide (that's why we have the screwy retail). So I wonder if the entire show is done yet, or they are releasing them as they get made. Hopefully the don't stop releasing them in HD before they get to volume 6...

I love the dragon ball series, not so much a fan of the movies - but hopefully this is the first step to releasing all the episodes
(hopefully full and uncut japanese originals too :P)

But as VC-1 said, these probably wont look much better in HD, but would but be nice to have it on less disks (if the episodes are released)
